RE: Bentley Bentayga Speed vs Mercedes-AMG G63
Discussion
I guess the market for these is really the UAE/China where there was a desire to display wealth - although not so much in China now since Xi’s anti-corruption drive.
I remember the programme on creating the Bentayga which ended up interviewing well-known plumber Charlie Mullins as he took delivery of his. That must have killed the cachet.
Given that owing one would mean everybody in the UK thinking you’re not only a knobhead but tone deaf to the way the world is going then I can’t for the life of me think why you’d want one.

Given the timing and what these cars embody how could I not?
And I did choose my words carefully and, at the time of writing, it was the very fact Greta presented her case and ‘brand’ as not emotional but based on cold, hard fact that made her message powerful. I realise there’s more to that than ‘tactics’ but it’s been an effective element of her public persona. Since I filed she obviously made the speech, in which she was very clearly emotional. But my choice of language wasn’t intended as pejorative - quite the opposite in fact.
Cheers!

And you might have been able to get away with saying that had you not included the massively loaded phrase "virtue-signalling" in the almost the very next sentence. And I did choose my words carefully and, at the time of writing, it was the very fact Greta presented her case and ‘brand’ as not emotional but based on cold, hard fact that made her message powerful. Be better.

I wonder how noisy the Merc is at 149mph..
I've got a 2005 G55 AMG and the wind noise is outrageous at 80mph. The new model is supposed to be a lot better but the W463 G63's were basically the same. Outrageous for a 6 digit car.Mum's got a 15 year old L322 Range Rover and it's better than the G55 in any objective measure. G55 sounds better and looks more quirky but its a hefty premium for that.
After 15 years the Range rover is worth about 1/14th of its new price, G wagon 1/3rd. Crazy world.
Spend 5 figures and get a Grand Cherokee Trackhawk instead
Faster, and and better looking than either of these 2 and more toys than you can shake a stick at. And before the usual 'crap interior' posts kick-off, they're actually very nicely appointed with some rather nice leather and carbon fibre. I'm certainly living mine and neither a Bentley or a Merc was on my shopping list. For me the Bentley does nothing the Jeep doesn't do - it just does it slower, more ostentatiously and for more cash. And the Merc's a fugly thing that again for more money doesn't do any more on the road than the Jeep...but I'm guessing has stronger off-road credentials. Would have been nice to add the Jeep to the test to see how a 710hp supercharged 6.2L Hemi stacks up

Couldnt you just solve the problem at the source? Id have thought 150k would get you pretty decent P***s Enlargement surgery
Then you could happily drive a Volvo like the rest of us
What a ridiculous comment. Posts like this make me question whether people on here are supposedly car enthusiasts or not. So if someone buys one of these it's a penis extension? Why? What about a Ferrari 488? Is that also a penis extension? Are people who can afford to buy these things not allowed to because it's a supposed penis extension? What of someone has far less income but buys something nice and expensive for them... Is that a penis extension? Then you could happily drive a Volvo like the rest of us
And also.... I thought all these Bentley SUVs were supposed to be used by school mums, in which case it's not going to be a penis extension is it.
This car isn't to my taste, but I totally understand why others would like it. It looks like a very, very nice place to spend some miles and has good all-round abilities. Your post just smacks of jealousy to me, and others I'm sure.

his has always puzzled me - why does what someone else drive matter? Surely you drive a car because you want/like it or at the very least, it suits your needs?
You forget two important things:1. Driving a car creates significant negative externalities (ie: pollution) - because of this simple fact, I do care what you drive because it touches me as well. I am on pistonheads, and I love cars, but that doesn’t mean I am blind to the damage they do. And because of this, I try to use the car in a way that maximise my utility and minimise the damage I cause to you (eg: I use public transport to work so that I can enjoy my oldies on a nice day);
2. Your choice of car is also a signal to others, because you show it to others (even more than your clothes). Now, if you show to others that you like to ride in an SUV with 22inch street tires, I can only judge you as silly at best and as showing off at worst. It is a judgement of value, but I believe in it: you drive a LaFerrari on a circuit, I consider you a car passionate; you drive a bentayga in kensington, I consider you a base chav. Value judgements are a necessary part of life: I admire Mandela and despise Trump, I admire Dylan and despise Bieber...

RE your point about using the oldies on a nice day....where do you draw the line? By using an "oldie" you're still polluting. Someone with a Bentayga may do other things which help the environment, but you might not see it....someone who sees you driving an "oldie" might not see you getting the train, so may also draw the same conclusions about you that you have about them.
I don't understand how someone having one of these is not seemingly OK, yet someone driving a LaFerrari around a circuit is OK....because at least the Bentayga can serve a purpose of a car carrying adults and going to a location, driving a big V12 on a track for nothing but pleasure is OK?
I think you sound a little contradictory in my opinion. Also....a "chav", doesn't that mean council housing and violence? I'm fairly sure someone who's bought a Bentaya wouldn't fit that bill quite so perfectly some how.
