Both are ghastly. The G was once magnificent. The minute it became cool, it became st.

Also....a "chav", doesn't that mean council housing and violence?
No (but, that aside, a Bentayga is a vulgar thing).
I have just checked, according to https://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/englis... it means "an insulting word for someone, usually a young person, whose way of dressing, speaking, and behaving is thought to show their lack of education and low social class"

I don't think a Bentayga owner generally a young person, and I'm not sure their way of behaving would show lack of education or a low social class. Admittedly I've only seen 1 Bentayga on the road, it was driven by a middle-aged man in a suit. I don't think generalising as "chav" would be the right generalisation, no?

I don’t get how people can be offended by either. They’re just cars after all.

I would (and did) buy a RR Autobiography over either but I do like the G so of the 2, I’d chose the Merc.

For the same price as a new G63, I think this is pretty cool. Much rarer and well, if you’re going to do it, might as well go big....

I did look at the Bentayga when it first came out. Whilst it is lovely inside, I just don’t like the way it looks from any angle and couldn’t live with it for that reason. My wife also hated it with a passion!

Spend 5 figures and get a Grand Cherokee Trackhawk instead smile

Faster, and and better looking than either of these 2 and more toys than you can shake a stick at. And before the usual 'crap interior' posts kick-off, they're actually very nicely appointed with some rather nice leather and carbon fibre. I'm certainly living mine smile and neither a Bentley or a Merc was on my shopping list. For me the Bentley does nothing the Jeep doesn't do - it just does it slower, more ostentatiously and for more cash. And the Merc's a fugly thing that again for more money doesn't do any more on the road than the Jeep...but I'm guessing has stronger off-road credentials. Would have been nice to add the Jeep to the test to see how a 710hp supercharged 6.2L Hemi stacks up wink

I don't understand how someone having one of these is not seemingly OK, yet someone driving a LaFerrari around a circuit is OK....because at least the Bentayga can serve a purpose of a car carrying adults and going to a location, driving a big V12 on a track for nothing but pleasure is OK?
As said, it’s a value judgement. I think that enjoying a magnificent v12 the way it was designed for is a worthy activity, whereas I think that rolling around in a tarted-up lorry to carry four people is stupid. Similarly I judge you a good parent if you watch a beethoven concert with your kids and a bad one if you watch celebrity big brother with them. We think that because two things are logically similar they are also morally equal. They aren’t.

I'm sorry, but having sat in one of each, the Bentley is definitely the nicer place to be! Whilst the Bentley is ostentatious....I wouldn't say the Trackhawk is subtle in any way shape or form! It might be even worse! On one hand we have people saying it looks bland, and others saying ostentatious....can it be both?

[quote=alorotom]Ive always loved the G but given the amount of footballers and celebrities that run them (and how many you seen being drvien badly in cities) I would now not buy one, unless in 6x6 guise.

Isnt this like refusing to buy your dream house as you dont like the curtains it currently has ? Why does it matter who has one and how its driven ? talk about narrow mindedness. You probably want Brexit too.

Yep, separating the fact they are both very impressive and no doubt quite pleasant to drive and be in, the roads are teeming with both around here in Cheshire.

The G in G class I think now seems to stand for Gangsta, saw one in the local pedestrianized area, why he was there I dont know and equally baffled why he hoofed it, see a few about and universally driven by 30 odd year old blokes with a baseball cap doing a pimp lean, usually pretty badly.

Used to have a coolness based on rarity, capability, longevity and its utilitarian origins, but now its blacked out and all blinged up show ponies. Would have a G, but not a geyserfied one, plainer the better for me.

I cant afford either but that doesnt trouble me, even if I could, not really into that kind of car, dont hate the SUV just the Merc has got a bit naff and I would feel too conspicuous in the Bentley once out of the "Golden Triangle".

$210,000 gets you this Landcruiser 80
That's where my anti-footballer 4x4 fictional funds would go.
430bhp LS3 engine, military spec wiring and coatings, and Lear Jet sun visors for added cool

Not relevant to these cars, but I think it’s definitely possible to have a rich chav. I’m not saying they’d buy these cars in particular as I don’t know.

The “council house and violent” was made up to fit the existing word, not vice versa

On topic, I was a big, big G Wagen fan until recently. A plain green 463 G400 CDI is one I’ll have when I find the right one
