As for the name.. 'Gran'. Wtf is that about lol. Sounds (and looks) like an old farts car. Pmsl..
Perhaps if you are incredibly naive and think English is the only language.https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/gran
"sounds and looks like an old farts car. Pmsl" - is it half term already? :hehe;

I trend I really hate in the industry of late is 4 door versions of coupes that are unnecessary.
This isn't as big of an offender as others but the 4 series gran coupe is a 4 door version of the 2 door version of the 4 door 3 series... What's the point? Is that gap in the market really big enough to warrant so many different models? Same for 6 series etc.
It's all down to personal choice. I love the 4 Series Gran Coupé and would buy one in a heartbeat if I had the money. The reason? I love the sleeker lines of the coupé but need a car with four doors as getting in and out of the back of a two-door coupé would be a struggle for my elderly parents who rely on me, to some degree, for transport. Clearly there is a large enough gap in the market for them as I see plenty on the road.This isn't as big of an offender as others but the 4 series gran coupe is a 4 door version of the 2 door version of the 4 door 3 series... They say 'coupe', I say five door hatchback. Not a looker either.
Quite. Not a coupé by any measure. BMW are good at using English incorrectly. The Mini, for example (meaning small, according to a dictionary).As somebody pointed out, the Kia looks nicer, and so does the Jaguar equivalent.
Sadly, even the interior is uninspiring. Definately a retiree's car.

It is not a hatchback...just like the 6GC they are still saloons.The 4GC is though, the 2GC should have everyone frothing more mind as it is FWD and even further from bmw tradition, that being said a lot of the range now features xdrive.

Never thought I would say this, the Kia looks better and cleaner than the flagship BMW!As an E39 M5 owner, I dont see anything coming out of BMW (Bar an M2) that is floating my boat, and nohting that looks great to my eyes.
Latest reliability results indicate the Koreans are making more reliable cars than the Germans too! Changing world.

Well if you want to get pedantic, 'gran' is Italian in origin and 'coupe' is a corruption of French. So 'gran coupe' really is nonsense.https://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/gran
'coupé du grand tour' or 'grand coupé' would at least be linguistically consistent, depending on what BMW are trying to express.

Considering the amount of sales, I'd say that should answer your question. And why should this bother you? Is it a bad thing to have a bit more choice? Don't quite like a 3 series styling and prefer the 4GT? Well, get a 4GT then. I might be wrong, but I THINK the GT cars have a hatch style boot, so can be more practical than a saloon? But I can't remember exactly.
I can't see the problem with having more choice to be honest. Maybe we should all just have a Golf estate instead with 1 engine option.
I think that so much choice is a bad thing. It seems to me that BMW has spent so much time and effort in filling any possible niche in the market, that they have moved away from their core values; quality of engineering, a great drive, and understated looks,and character. They are now ugly, dull to drive, and just not BMW enough. At least that's my opinion. I can't see the problem with having more choice to be honest. I was thinking the same thing before I read your post. the Kia looks much better. As an E39 M5 owner, I dont see anything coming out of BMW (Bar an M2) that is floating my boat, and nohting that looks great to my eyes.

And the M2 isn't long for the options lists either.The next one is probably going to be a nose heavy, AWD, facsimile of an RS3 or A45 AMG

I agree. BMW has now reached saturation point where there are so many on the road that the badge is not worth that much anymore. Gassing Station | General Gassing | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
