A nice car is just a penis extension?

The other day a guy I'm friends with on Facebook posted up a photo of an M5 he'd just bought. Despite being more of an M3 fan I can still appreciate it for what it is, as could most other people it would seem as almost all of the comments were positive, but there were a few that questioned the size of his penis confused

I must be out of touch but since when was this a thing? By the same logic, do women who drive nice cars do so in order to compensate for having a loose vagina?! Is owning a nice house also compensation for some physical shortfall?

If I post up a photo of a nice car along with a photo of my old chap next to a ruler, would this be sufficient to pre-empt this implication, or am I then likely to face derogatory assumptions about my testicular diameter or sexual stamina?

My feelings are easily hurt and I care a lot about what other people think so I'm keen to understand the rules on this.

This has been a tongue in cheek comment about nice/fast cars for as long as I can remember and I'm 50. Really is nothing new.

Yeah nothing new, mostly caused by envy I think. People don't like people with nice things, so need to put them down somehow.

Mostly women who say this when they don't understand the appeal. The response is mostly that they expensive handbag/shoes is to compensate for them being overweight/ugly otherwise feeling inadequate.

I've got two decent cars, unfortunately my penis hasn't grown since purchasing them. I also tried attaching the car to my groin to get a visible extension but it was impractical and looked a bit silly

I've got two mid-engined rear wheel drive cars and my penis is the same size it always was, and actually is seeing less action since buying them. Go figure.

I have had similar jokey comments about my CLS as it's a big car. I also reminded them that I own a Twingo! hahaha

This has been a thing forever, and it only applies in the negative way as far as I'm aware? I don't recall women fawning over men in Fiat Cinquecentos because of their obviously massive implement?

It presumably comes from the general comforting perception that people that are flashy are over-compensating and obviously that men are nothing more than a pecker with a guidance system attached.

It dates back at least to Hale & Pace: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IFQu2HgDTwQ

I do wonder about testosterone levels and a fascination with cars, it's been shown to have an effect on children and monkeys so would likely apply to PH too: https://www.livescience.com/22677-girls-dolls-boys...

My mother was always of the opinion that the only reason anyone had anything other than maybe a grey Ford Focus was to "show off". It was very tiresome.

I was in the car with her and my 5 year old daughter when a bloke in a TVR rumbled up next to our grey focus at the lights, and then booted it away in a glorious storm of noise. Obviously we caught up at the next set of lights and she was merp merping on "oh look at me in my fast car, everyone look at me, what a prat". My daugher said "well it looked like a lot of fun to me" hehe

TBF she was a spiteful and scornful woman with nary a nice thing to say about anyone.

nothing attracts a girls attention more than:

front fog lights on
shopping list down the side of a car
bangin' stereo
no seat belt on
seats nearly vertical and car being driven one handed whilst looking like your wrists are arthritic.

those are the facts my friends.

ensure you leave your doors unlocked, you'll be beating them back as they scramble to get into your car.

actually the last M5 my wife saw (not that she'd know one) was brand new, clearly cost a fortune, was orange and being driven akin to above, with a lad with his arm hanging out of the car, with a big blingin' watch one.

she commented just how much of an utter nob he looked. and he really really did.

was it anyone on here- givin it the beans around the showcase/ikea roundabout in leeds a few years back ???

In my experience, most people view the world through their own eyes. Those people who made that comment would buy an M5 to improve their image and their confidence - to make them feel better about themselves, and they think everyone thinks like they do. Simple as that.

You get the same thing in other walks of life: very image conscious people often slag off Apple, because they predominately see the marketing and styling and overlook the functionality, so they just assume people buy iPhones for the image. I even had a friend comment on my house once: he said people only buy big houses to impress other people!

When you couple this rather closed minded view of the world with a judgemental nature, you get comments like your friend got.

I've been cracking up at some of these replies. One of the reasons why I love PistonHeads biggrin

I'm now more worried at how out of touch I've become though, as it does look like this has been a thing for ages laugh What awfully hurtful beasts some people are!

i know very few people share have the same appreciation.
when people do show an interest it's often for the wrong, facile reasons (looks, acceleration or whatever)

Probably the same fkwits also say, in no particular order,

" Hairdressers car"
"indicators optional on BMWs'

and also (some people on here like quoting this) when someones making progress, they must have a really small penis because they're driving fast.

Bizarre.
