All time favourite rally car - iconic livery too.

Still like the Beta Monte Carlo or should I keep that to myself?

Someone needs to check their facts, as the 037 won 6 rounds of the WRC as as mentioned won the 1983 Manufacturers title for Lancia, whereas its successor the Delta S4, only won 5 rounds of the WRC and didn't win the manufacturers title for Lancia, which both the Stratos and 037 did.

PH fail.
The Delta which, it could be argued, also includes the Group A version. Which won nearly 50 rounds of the WRC.

Pedant fail.
Group A version of what?
They shared a name and nothing else. There were no Group A versions of the Group B cars, other than the previous gen Group 4/2/1 cars that had their homologation carried into the Group B/A era.

That's like claiming a Sierra Cosworth was the Group A version of the RS200, as the RS200 used a Sierra windscreen, rear lights and modified doors.
" the awkward middle child of that memorable Stratos-037-Delta triumvirate. Not as pretty as what preceded it, nor as successful as what followed"

To me, the above statement clearly referred to all of the Deltas together (S4, HF 4WD, HF Integrale, 16v), and not just the S4, especially when putting the emphasis on success. I don't think anyone, including the writer, has ever considered the S4 to be more successful then the 037, other than at killiing people.

Unfortunately the 037 was quite "successful" at that too frown

Still one of the all-time great-looking (and sounding) rally cars.

Only if you ignore the fact that the S4 was a Delta in name only, the differences are so vast as to not be valid to include, especially with the massive regs changes between Grp B and Grp A. You may as well include the rally success of the Fulvia HF into the Stratos era if you do that.
If anything, the 037 and the S4 are more closely linked together as both were Grp.B.

This is such a dream car. Stunningly beautiful shape, great performance and even in the right livery.

Deltaiom indeed made an interesting claim, which Augustus Windsock acknowledged in a positive manner. However, Deltaiom - for whatever reason - decided to take it the wrong way and draw offence from AW's post, and effectively insulted him by telling him to 'take your rose tinted glasses off'. Both AW and myself then replied to him to basically read the post correctly in future and have some manners before throwing around needless insults.

I'm well aware of what he was saying, but if YOU had actually bothered to read the thread correctly, then maybe you would also have had an opportunity for a second thought before coming at me with YOUR post.

Cheezuz kryste, I honestly can't believe I've just wasted 5 minutes of my life actually replying to this: I need to find more work to do.
It was the bits about asking him not to post at all that annoyed me. I hope he continues.

Lovely cars. Have fond memories of seeing these on the circuit of Ireland rally back in the early 80's with my Dad. At the time I wasn't that keen on the looks but love the design now. Been lucky enough to be taken out in a road 037. Stunning cars and would have one over any of the modern super / hyper cars available today.

Well, if you have the money and fancy a pair....

I can't speak for provenance but this is apparently the actual '85 RAC winner - Toivonen / Wilson (note - not Sergio Cresta, Henri's regular co-pilot).

The Italian national champ in the 037 makes me crease, the way he concentrates worth his tongue when he's REALLY on it.
Bloody magnificent that video, all the cars are great but the 037 with the volumes going sounds manic
+1. I've watched that video so many times. Always cheers me up.

Errr are You (the author) not forgetting the King of Group B here..? The Delta S4?

(The fastest B-monster of them all, would have won 1986 championship had not Toivonen crashed. Actually it STILL won ´86, until Peugeot argued to count the points differently and then won this championship).

Do not (AGAIN) mix up the Delta S4 with the roadgoing Delta/Integrale. The Delta S4 was basically a 037 with 4wd, turbo and a new silouette body.

However, that type of advert really grinds my corn; ‘POA’
I’ve often wondered how many times they get punters ringing up and when told the price say ‘how much?!?!’ And put the phone down.

Like for the homoglation special stradale??
In view of the previous posts subsequent to the above, I'd be skeptical of the provenance of alot of these cars. I think alot of them may constitute a mishmash of parts presented as the authentic article with rally pedigree. shame in a way but logical too when one considers how inflated the classic car market is currently.
