In view of the previous posts subsequent to the above, I'd be skeptical of the provenance of alot of these cars. I think alot of them may constitute a mishmash of parts presented as the authentic article with rally pedigree. shame in a way but logical too when one considers how inflated the classic car market is currently.
If I wanted one of these it would be for the experience of driving it, not the history of that particular example. I'd much rather an honest car with national championship history, or none at all, than a questionable WRC car.

There's plenty of them hiding in garages in Italy.

Great responses here, shows the value of the forum.

Be keen to hear a Pistonheads response to this? I've reported the advert as a potential scam (seems the most appropriate option). At the very least a disclaimer should be added to the article warning potential buyers to conduct their own due diligence to confirm the provenance of the car.

Do not (AGAIN) mix up the Delta S4 with the roadgoing Delta/Integrale. The Delta S4 was basically a 037 with 4wd, turbo and a new silouette body.
Glad I'm now not the only one on here who understands this thumbup

I can't speak for provenance but this is apparently the actual '85 RAC winner - Toivonen / Wilson (note - not Sergio Cresta, Henri's regular co-pilot).

Last time I saw that (assuming its the same one) was on stage in Nottingham at the prize giving for the '85 RAC......assuming that was indeed the same car as it looked remarkably in good nick considering the state Henri's cars were usually in immediately after a rally laugh

(The fastest B-monster of them all, would have won 1986 championship had not Toivonen crashed. Actually it STILL won ´86, until Peugeot argued to count the points differently and then won this championship).

No the Peugeots were winning in sanremo and the organisers had them DQ on the spot for allegedly illegal skirts. There weren't allowed to continue under protest and a subsequent investigation the skirts were deamed legal and the results of the entire rally were annulled. As Alen had won the rally he lost the points and the title to Kankkunen.

Just returned from a week in Italy to take in the Rally Legends event in San Remo. Miki Biasion was blasting round in an 037 making the hairs stand up on the back of your neck.

Take a look at rallylegendofficial on Instagram, the event is epic. I never thought I'd live to see everything from 70's Lancia's through Mk2 Escorts, loads of Strato's, Integrales, 6R'4s etc etc all at full chat.

The region around and in San Remo is beautiful, no litter, mad drivers, lovely food and no louts with dogs snapping at everything, breath of fresh air.

Could this car be the one lurking in the background of the last few videos on Harry's Garage? I suspect so, maybe his next video???

I saw the rally legends in Austria a couple of years ago - to say I was majorly geeking out would be an understatement!

The Eiffel Rally in Germany every summer is equally mind-bending!

Exactly what i meant, sorry to mix up the details.

My point was Lancia Delta S4 would have won the 1986 WRC Championship otherwise.
(who knows maybe (Peugeot's) Jean Todt already then knew the right people.. smile )

No they wouldn't as the San Remo results are void. rolleyes
You could only say that if the Peugeots had been allowed to run for the rest of the event under protest, and Alen had still won, with no T16's scoring any points. Thats precisely why the round had to be struck from the championship.

But here we have a Martini 037, a truly wonderful car and yet, arguably, the awkward middle child of that memorable Stratos-037-Delta triumvirate. Not as pretty as what preceded it, nor as successful as what followed, the 037 sits between its two siblings as the least successful of the three.
Someone needs to check their facts, as the 037 won 6 rounds of the WRC as as mentioned won the 1983 Manufacturers title for Lancia, whereas its successor the Delta S4, only won 5 rounds of the WRC and didn't win the manufacturers title for Lancia, which both the Stratos and 037 did.

PH fail.
Apologies! I (incorrectly) had sort of bundled Delta S4 and Group A car together, which I shouldn't have. I meant the Group A, winning-five-in-a-row Delta. Very valid point you make on the S4.

Hello,

We've been made aware of the discrepancy (best term I could think of!) and it's being investigated. Certainly never our intention to mislead or deceive, be that from from sales or editorial.

PH fail.
The Delta which, it could be argued, also includes the Group A version. Which won nearly 50 rounds of the WRC.

Pedant fail.
Group A version of what?
They shared a name and nothing else. There were no Group A versions of the Group B cars, other than the previous gen Group 4/2/1 cars that had their homologation carried into the Group B/A era.

That's like claiming a Sierra Cosworth was the Group A version of the RS200, as the RS200 used a Sierra windscreen, rear lights and modified doors.
Slightly off topic, but the Sierra Cosworth was homologated for group B before it was even a group A or N car :-)

New one on me.

Not listed as such in the FiA homologation historic database?
