The standard ones sound stupid for the lack of power, so strapping a pair of ridiculous tubas to the back has pushed it even further into sad territory. A sheep in outdated wolf's clothing.
I really like these cars, and I actually hope they don't mess with it too much. It works really well on the road, and on the track, and is stupidly good value for money. Adding the DCT is fine with me as long as it is an option. The manual 'box is one of the nicest to use that I've experienced for a while.

I've been looking at them half seriously over the past few months, and have been offered a brand new one in Performance Blue through Carwow for £24,542! When you consider how it drives, and what you get spec (and warranty) wise, that is ridiculous value for money. The one cost option, apart from colour, was the winter pack (heated seats and wheel) and they even throw that in as standard now. A refreshing approach compared with the Germans who hide all the good stuff in packs that force you to pay for three things you don't want in order to get the one thing you do.

It's still reviewing well too. There was a big 14 car hot hatch group test in Evo this month, where it placed 2nd, behind the CTR, but ahead of (among others) the A35, the Megane RS and Trophy, the Focus and Fiesta ST and the Golf GTI and R. A great all round package, very well developed, and somehow just incredibly likeable. Hampered mostly by the badge, and arguably a slight lack of straight line speed relative to the competition. It's certainly not going to win you any willy waving contests, but the chassis is a peach.

TBH they don't lack power at all IMO

Yes the UK market is good that we get what we pay for no options as the winter pack is now part of the car, they have actually increased the price in the last 6 months to compensate of it but car wow eliminates this. Basically what we order is what we get unless you want a colour with cost.

Sadly the UK market seems to get the short straw as I would have loved the upgrade stereo system that Europe gets, they get loads of extras like recaro seats, uprated pads, body styling etc. We cant get any of it yet if we get it from Hyundai Europe (insert country) we then have to pay extra to fit it all at dealer price per hour - sod that.

For the cost I can go to a car audio specialist and get a better system for the same cost which I may end up doing with mine soon.

The only down side now I am used to the tiny fuel tank (I actually drive it sensibly not popping and banging everywhere) is the build quality but I get this is where the costs are cut. Things like the handbrake full on plastic no gaiters etc. Getting in the car the front of my shoe has scratched the door car cheap plastic, door handles failing then saying its not covered under warranty etc

I think the biggest kick to owners of late the dealer network (Again not all just some) The sign recognising software not being activated in pre delivery then when you ask they try charging you & all dealers are trying to charge different figures over £100, Also cars being taken on "test drives" by mechanics but when they look into it they are being driven like bellends - One bloke got on camera his car over taking 7 others on a A road at high speed etc.....

Hopefully the dealer network gets better

How can they keep providing a pop and bang exhaust...I thought they were all but banned on new cars even if they can get passed the particulate filter

Keen to see not only how far these guys go in their own model range, but what will happen to the rest of the automotive world when they're churning out similar spec.

Korean cars have come a long way, and in some ways, are better than the "traditional" marques. I wish companies like Fuji Heavy Industries had gone this way, but they don't seem to have the money to invest. I would have loved to have seen a modern 22B with a DCT.

Isn't it amazing. Good for them (and good for everybody, really).

The current Genesis G70 saloon is quite handsome. They've excelled at accentuating the width of the car. The interior includes quilted surfaces on seating and doors.

Not a car for pushing 10 tenths on the track -- yet no less desirable for that.

Not available in all markets just yet.

I would consider one used, for sure. Exceptional value for money.

fk sake. They expect praise for making YET ANOTHER car with reduced driver involvement and slapping an N badge on it cos Nurburgring?

fk off Hyundai, and the horse you rode in on. Not Pistonheads-worthy in my opinion.

Boring but reliable brand makes front wheel drive car with automatic gearbox.

Save it for WhatCar? magazine.

Or Nanyang. But don't let it get in the way of a good rant.

True. My prior post more a reflection of quarantine-induced mood. Still, I don't think the addition of a DCT/Auto box these days is either laudable or noteworthy. I'm sure it'll help their sales.

These DCT boxed cars have been running round in i-pool for at least the last 12 months and they've not been shy about it. seen the coupe way boot away from the petrol station and unless he had the quickest hand feet co-ordination ever it was defo a DCT, even had the silly Fart noise when it changed.

Its ok as a daily driver but still think in a hot hatch you want the driver involvement. But the market wants auto. its funny that the porker GT4 has been praised as a manual hero yet dealers are having to find buyers for the manual cars as everybody wants the PDK version coming later in the year.

I’m sorry to go off on a tangent here, however I feel I need to stick my head above the parapet here and respond to some of the posts above.

For background, I’ve worked in a main franchised motor dealer (in sales) for 12 years.

I doubt very much the salesperson was thinking of his own pocket when saying Hyundai would never do an i30N with a DCT. Chances are, they were just repeating the last bit of information given to them by Hyundai, or repeating something another colleague had said. Manufacturers do tend to keep their cards close to their chest, and often inform the centres of updates to vehicles long after the rumour mill has been going.

The reason for me getting into this job was due to being a petrol head. It’s not because I’m a liar, a cock or whatever other negative name you care to call me. It’s because I like cars and enjoy talking to people. Believe it or not, I pride myself on my customer service. I’m not the only salesperson with this outlook either, although I accept any industry will have a few bad apples.

It’s therefore quite disheartening when you come on here to see the same old drivel spouted by keyboard Nigel and his internet chums. I would suggest you grow up and refrain from saying anything if you can’t say anything nice. It’s boring now, really, it is.

Ta, GTiWILL.
^^ THIS ^^

I also work at a Hyundai main dealership, and the amount of mis-placed opinion, and outright bs spouted by some people who have never worked in the industry beggers belief.
Unfortunately, sometimes customers know about certain 'stuff' before the employee's do. That is not the fault of the employee, it is the fault of the company for not communicating properly.
I work in service & parts, and many times we have customers coming in quoting some latest 'offer' that has been advertised on the Hyundai website, yet we don't have any clue as we have not been informed (usually we will be 2 or 3 days later by email).
It's a shame some people don't take this into consideration.

Well I've had my i30N since October and am very happy it.

It has a few niggles, but what car doesn't. It puts a smile on my face every time I drive it so that makes it worthwhile for me.

That's the most important thing, if a car puts a smile on your face every time you drive it.

I really like these i30Ns. If I was in the market for a new hot hatch, this would right near the top for me. What clinched it for me was an EVO twin test last year where an i30N dropped a current shape Fiesta ST on one particularly bumpy and twisty back-road. I prefer my cars to be capable on road rather than track and the i30N seems nailed on for B road driving.

I’m another i30 fan - bought an N-Line a few weeks ago and v pleased with it. Aus-spec means 200bhp from a 1.6T rather than the pasty 130’ish in the UK. Full fat N was too rich for me, but chassis is very good and the 6-sp manual is one of the better I’ve tried of late. Revelation is the ride quality - top notch, on 18s too.

As for the DCT, one of the reasons for getting the i30 was the availability of a manual, so I’m not the target market.

But for anyone considering something along these lines, it’s worth a try.

I'm not saying it's the best out there. Possibly, if I'd had another ten grand to spend, I'd have bought a Civic Type-R (admittedly I've not driven one, but going by the reviews).

But it is a very good car, and probably overlooked by a lot of people due to the badge but c'est la vie.

Have you driven one? Lucky for you, there is a manual if that's what you prefer. Choice is a wonderful thing.
