RE: BMW extends Gran Coupe family with new 2 Series

Try downloading the pictures from the press office (any marque) on to your desktop/laptop/whatever, and compare them to how PH present the same photos - and tell me PH doesn't somehow squish them, so they appear thinner and taller than in the original photos.
Absolutely nothing to do with a 1/4/6 front or rear - no idea where you were going with that..

You come across as a bit paranoid. I'm not sure PH manipulate anything, and I was merely pointing out where the design may have been seen previously. Here is the link to the press release, including those pictures that tell journalists what to write. https://www.press.bmwgroup.com/global/article/deta...Absolutely nothing to do with a 1/4/6 front or rear - no idea where you were going with that..
Paranoid? How odd.
I was merely pointing out (as many others have done previously) that in uploading/formatting the pictures for the website, PH always manages to make cars pictured look thinner and taller than they are in reality. Few cars benefit from this, aesthetically speaking, and that is the case here. It's not the greatest looking car, but it looks a lot better if it is represented proportionately correctly.
Thank you for pointing out that the car shares design themes that feature on other model lines from the same manufacturer. That's something new on me, I've never seen that before......ever.........

Forum sarcasm to make the poster feel a sense of superiority over others on PistonHeads. I was curious so I looked at the article again and yes, you are correct. The images are embedded with fixed width and height attributes in the image tag that do not match the true aspect ratio of the image.
Here is the example of the first image from the article:
The raw size of the image is 600px by 450px, but the image is being resized to 574px by 454.75px which does not maintain the original aspect ratio of the image of 1.33 and is being shown with an aspect ratio of 1.26. This means that the photos are being elongated in height so the cars appear taller and stumpier than they actually are in the original photos.
I very much appreciate the technical explanation of my 'gut feel'. I wonder why they do that? Here is the example of the first image from the article:
<img alt="" src="https://ph-classic-prod-images.s3.amazonaws.com/nimg/41133/2GC_13.jpg" width="600" height="450">

Thanks for the kind (and negative) comments, guys! Claus Luthe was the designer, he did everything from the E12 facelift through to the E30, E36 and E34, including the E31 8 series. I wonder what he'd think of BMW's design direction if he were still alive? Have a couple more angles for good measure..

How many niches within the BMW range remain unfilled now then?
They haven't made a four door Convertible version of this yet.I feel like we're watching the demise of BMW in slow motion. Attractive cars being replaced one by one by sh*t like this. The 4 Series is on the chopping block and after that, it's only the 5 Series left as a reminder of how BMW used to be, elegant and well proportioned.
Audi must be laughing all the way to the bank. Tragic.

I had one of those 30 years ago, a 1977 S plate 528 Automatic in Polaris, big Solex 4A1 carburettor and 3 speed ZF Auto. It went well but liked a drink. I think Chris Bangle and Chris Chapman (E87) would be horrified by this thing.
It's a no from me! They've taken a nicely proportioned car in the previous 2 Series Coupe and made it fussy and ugly.
If this is in the same segment as the new CLA, I'd take one of hose in a heartbeat. The original was a complete dog but the new one is very smart. The A3 saloon is also tidy looking, even more so compared to this.

Nice to hear from someone who had one back in the day! Mine has the 4a1 too, manual but still only averages 18mpg..worth it though! I think Chris Bangle and Chris Chapman (E87) would be horrified by this thing.
