To answer the USP question; it’s an Aston Martin, it has more than enough power to match a URUS, it’s going to be luxurious inside (hopefully, photos look promising). Triple air suspension. Etc Speaking to a local dealer recently they have a lot of people going to view who are on the URUS waiting list. And Aston will be hoping to persuade many to upgrade from their Range Rovers

But always keep in mind, the key markets for this car are the US and China. I gather the initial viewings in those 2 markets are going very well

I’ve got no plans to buy one myself (or not until depreciation has taken a good chunk off the price) but I wish AML well with it, nice to see a British manufacturer thriving.
The problem is that it won't be as good as a range rover in many ways. Space, and off road capability most notably. It's not in the Urus league in terms of performance. It will be like a nicely trimmed Porsche Cayenne for 50-100% more. Indeed dynamically I bet it won't be as good, though I'm going on historic Porsche vs Aston outcomes so possibly unfair, or at least premature.

Aston has lost its way a bit due to the pressures of the IPO and seems to be producing decent enough cars, but that aren't as good looking as they were historically, and with diluted Aston DNA (the engines in particular). They are struggling to survive with too much debt and too much pressure to drive sales volumes. The DBX may be a great SUV, and I hope so - if the reviews are good I'll be tempted to swap my Cayenne S for one in due course. I can't help but think this may be Aston's Allegro though....
I wont be unkind to say that aston have never been dynamicslly superior to a Porsche. With limited sales it didnt matter: customers might have both, or might have an aston for a whole host of other reasons including pure desire. These days, with volume it does matter.

It’s difficult to argue with much of that. The rising cost of building new cars is putting huge strain on everyone and AML doesn’t have a sugar-daddy to help spread the investment cost.

But I’m not sure it matters too much. At this end of the market it’s the heart that overrides the head. No Aston Martin is as fast as it’s Porsche equivalent. And yet on the AM forums most buyers seem to come from Porsche, more often than not describing Stuttgart’s finest as “souless”, a Heart>head thing if ever I heard it.

Anyway it’s all a bit of crystal ball gazing at this stage. I’m hoping it’s a big hit, would be nice to see Aston Martin in a strong position rather than surviving hand-to-mouth.

Sorry, but the 'brand dilution' bit is way off. AM 'diluted' their brand when Ford bought it, they diluted it with the more prolific DB7, then with the Vantage. BMW, Mercedes, Porsche, Bentley, pretty much everyone has 'diluted' their brands by growing volumes and lowering their entry points...and done better for it.

What people really mean by dilution is: change (often for the better) and more common, and they don't like that.

Not sure I agree with that. The DB7 was indeed the start of the transition and when the DB9 and V8 Vantage came out there was a sense of real excitement. Dynamically not the best, but they were so advanced compared to Astons of old, and also so good looking they rightly sold in decent volumes. I think I could forgive the Mercedes engine in the current Vantage if it had the beauty of the old one. But the AMG GT looks better in my view (subjective I know), so if I want the engine I'd just buy that. The DB11/DBS is a handsome car and is the pick of the range for me (top end exotica aside). But it doesn't pull on the heart strings like the DB9 did. It isn't change that I don't like, it's the current Aston design language that leaves me a bit cold.

Dare I say it looks a bit F-Pace from the profile view. And good to see they're taking inspiration from Porsche, but instead of making their face look like the main models, the arse does not translate well with the V8 Vantage-esque tail.
Dear Aston,

Nope.

Yes, we have temporarily, or otherwise, dropped out of normal society. But I don't think you mean that. I think your comment was an attempt at insulting us, but that's OK. As we are doing something that 99% of the population don't do, we can expect a bit of resistance at times.

Thankfully people are generally really cool with what we're doing. I would say that you are the first to try and insult us because we are not adhering to the "rules". I'm quite flattered, I like the term "drop-outs", maybe I'll paint it on the side of our Bus.

Thank you. Check us out if you wish on www.mundo-kombi.com if you want to see us being a pair of losers tongue out

You crazy hippie! wink

That is a bad ass bus! Looks like she gets down the road well, which I imagine makes for a much less stressful voyage. Kudos.
