Thankfully the human race will never be defined or limited to what an average person is capable of! We are where we are now because there are folks who are willing to push boundaries and those who are willing to support it.

Thanks for the article Matt. The Trophy R sounds brilliant and restores Renaults reputation for the best riding and handling cars which it had with the Mk 3 Trophy. I currently have the Golf with Cup 2s fitted and the grip is unbelievable. Just deciding what to do over winter. New PS4S or winter tyres?
It depends on how much Winter driving your going to do and how bad the weather gets where you are. For a better all round tyre which could be used all year go for the PS4's or if you just want something for Winter go for the Winter tires, personally I'd go for the PS4's as then you have a spare set for all year round which could be useful if you get caught short with the Cup 2's.Eta btw you can get 4 235/35/19 PS4Ss on blackcircles just now for £580 fitted, bargain

Love the fact that the extreme meganes exist, but I think the sweet spot is the rung below. We run a Mk3 275 Cup-S with Recaros, ohlins and akropovic. It’s a silver car on 18inch alloys. You can park it anywhere, it does all sorts of normal car things without complaint, ferrying kids and work stuff around, nobody gives it a second look...this Wednesday it will pottle upto donnington and put in a serious shift on track before pottling home...I love the fact it just slips under the radar, it’s a trick the trophy R cars cannot play...
Is this the car with renaultsport stickers with Ohlins written on and ppfd with the back spoiler wrapped in black? If so I was the first owner and it was a cracking drive. Much better as a driver's car than the Clubsport Edition 40 my wife had since. I moved into A 997 and since a 981 GTs. The steering and suspension was superior in the Megane. I'll have another at some point.moonigan said:

Price as tested for the Renault is £72,140, for that you can buy a GT4.
You cannot move the goal posts to suit a debate, it’s not the House of Commons.:-)
No you cant! Certainly not a new one. Sure you might find a leggy 4 year old car with multiple owners and crap spec but as you have said you cannot move the goalposts to suit the debate and the new vs used one rages daily. You cannot move the goal posts to suit a debate, it’s not the House of Commons.:-)
I also go back to the list GT4 price of £64k + options.
I have 5 cars, I bought a GT4 new, I own many other things, would I pay £72k for a Megane. nope.
I do own the Golf CS though as one of them, amazing value for money for how it drives.

new vs old is very relevant as some one with £70k to burn on a fun car will look at new and 2nd hand.

For absolute clarity the Megane is £51k. Can you please point us towards a £51k GT4 of any age? I also go back to the list GT4 price of £64k + options.

I agree the Golf was/is excellent VFM, even if you can't buy one with manufacturers warranty that even includes track use.

Would be interesting to read comparison between Megane and A110. 2 seats, same engine, proper low slung mid engined coupe vs seriously tweaked hatch. Presumably some overlap in the development and sign off teams so wonder how they compare.
Great idea! Let's see if we can get Prosser to share his one...Matt

No problem! Tricky one, as PS4s are very good, but Cup 2s work pretty well in adverse conditions actually. I'd go the whole hog for winters so you then have the best for summer and the best for winter. And a very good car - bravo!anonymous said:

Maybe you should follow your own advice as oppose to suggesting that that only 'suckers' would buy it or people with nothing better to do with their money. Nobody has to explain to you why they would wish to buy one if they could or justify it if they have, do they?God bless and protect buyers of Trophy R’s everywhere, specifically because of them I can start saving now sure of the brand new 30 Grand Cup S In Volcano Orange I will be welcoming into my life a couple of years from now. I thank them for their foresight, vision and ridiculously deep pockets. Since when did a car have to make sense, that’s for men to make up according to their strongest desire and latest whimsical urges.🥶

It's ok for people to like things that you don't like.
Yes true but what's funny is the confusion between the "not liking" and the "not understanding" and "not experiencing". It's OK to not like but its quite funny when it comes from a position of near zero knowledge/experience, confirmed by the fact that some don't even know how much the car is or think that anyone driving better than them is a "driving god" (whatever that means) or that a Caterham is practical to drive to the Ring and back or that a GT4 is under £51k. In fact, some pretend to be thick so that they can dislike something they should actually appreciate as driving enthusiasts. Or perhaps their only forte is negativity.
