Where are all the W12 Phaetons at?
No longer barge/thread territory I reckon, sought after modern classic, strong money and rising unless rough/borked. They didn't spend all that long scraping along the bottom of the curve, unlike 750/760/S600/A8/Turbo R which flatlined for an age and are still barely appreciating if at all.
Aslo, when you say "all the...", you know there are only about two dozen extant in the UK? Peak year was about 2009 and a lot of them have gone to the happy hunting ground now due to people's unwillingness to spend the money needed to keep them going

You could probably find a nice one in Germany, quite a few last time I looked.

As my commute grew I moved from a sporty 3litre Alfa to a turbo hatchback and cover about 20k of mostly motorways.

This is one of my favourite threads and tempted by the idea of a barge commuter instead of the hatchback, hoping to listen to my audio books with little noise and lots of comfort.

My question, what kind of mileage do you drive in your barge?
It's definitely the way forward if the roads aren't that fun.

I used to do about 40k pa in mine, commuting + normal use, and I'm middling at best in terms of mileage I think!

One chap bought the 233k FLSH 430 from another threadiste. He bought it on a whim in order to compose a photo of blissful bargedom in front of a double garage annex in his home in the lovely county of Somerset.

JOB has purchased a red old Merc with a boot that can hold six bodies, it exceeds thread budget.

Another chap has purchased a 430 for a net -£0.14.
Add my LS460 from exactly two weeks ago Tobinen if you're keeping score again.

My OH has become quite partial to it. She's just shot off to John Lewis with a chirp of the tyres and far too many revs for a cold engine. Her daily is a knackered diesel Clio.

I’ve had an IS200, GS300 and an LS 430.

I’m seriously looking at a 460 in the new year all this talk has whetted my appetite.

Mine's back, new front tyres (at no cost to me) and the drone has gone. Knocking still present, waiting for part to come in. The TPMS light has come on though and I can't turn it off, so they'll need to sort that when it goes back irked

Tobinen - any idea how much your CL will cost to fix, dare I ask? Hopefully it won't be much and you can get back to enjoying it soon smokin

Ross, has the system been re-initialised (is that a word?) following the fitment of the new tyres? There is a button hidden deep under the driver's side dash that has to be pressed and held.

Your dealer sounds like a gentleman. Your car seemed competitively priced so I'd imagine your continuing tales of woe have knocked the st out out his margin. Honestly, who would ever want to be a motor trader?

I don't believe it has been reset, no. I had a quick look when I got back home and couldn't see that button. Do you need to remove any trim to get to it? I'm very busy over the next few days but if I get chance over the weekend I'll look. Not that it matters as it'll be going back to the garage within a week I'd have thought thumbup

In fairness, my "tales of woe" have been 1 tyre and a part that will cost £115 + VAT so not extortionate smile

I dream about having a cool garage with some really interesting cars and making some nice videos to sell them, but I'm fairly confident in reality it would ruin me.

No trim removal, just a bit of grubbing around on your knees with a torch needed. Press and hold until the warning light flashes, and then see what happens.

First post on this thread - I've been catching up for weeks!

My current not quite sure if it is a barge Mondeo 2.5T is performing admirable service, despite needing some love, but this thread has shown me that I NEED a Lexus LS430 or 460 in my life.

However, I can't justify another car, but I shall continue to dream smile

Difficult to justify an E61 when the F11 is in range. Dirty diddly diesel, 142k, but at £4350 it's a cheap modern load lugger.

Just drive it for a few cycles and it will turn itself off. I had my spare refurbed last week so drove around with the warning lights on (because it couldn’t “see” the spare), popped the wheel back in and the lights were still on.....2 days later they had gone off and all back to normal now. I guess the software must be set to remain on unless no fault seen for X cycles.

It's a handsome thing, but for four pot diesel and someone previous mentioned an aversion to car on gumtree! Possibly unfair but stigmatised it has been, nonetheless!

An old S class is a tempting thing.

Think we've had this 1995 S280 at £1800, but it's nice, so have it again.

1999 S500, claims 57k and FSH. £2k

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2019...

2005 S500L looks very regal even with a bust mirror case, £2300.

This carthrottle vid seems to suggest they can be costly if borked, but hey, can't anything?!

The W140 in blue is a very handsome thing indeed.

I have just arrived home, safe and sound and with no more damage to the E39. Proper shock back on UK motorways, but there you go.

1,828 miles door-to-door.

I have the rest of the week off so I will try to write-up my mini-adventure

In other news the heated rear screen is in for the CL - much more quickly than I had expected but all good, thanks to a text from Sytner while I was away. It's booked in tomorrow for the locking vacuum pump.

To save me a trawl back two weeks, has anyone bought anything?
2k miles - that’s a healthy trip - good effort.

That S500L - will on a white background photo before long (only taken from one side though) who needs a passenger door mirror anyway.
