Rather nice XJR in very very dark green... I think it suits it well, as do the dark carpets / light leather and wood combo. Tensioners done, history good. I think I'd prefer it on lighter coloured alloys, but apparently the ones it has were factory.

They were the wheels for the XJR100 edition, polished rims with an oyster gold centre. They look awful in grey.

I regret selling my W124 that I purchased in the last volume. It was a great car but wasn’t getting used as I got more enjoyment from my Mk2 golf GTI and have a company car with fuel paid for longer journeys.

Anyway, I want to see what the thread consensus is on the VW Arteon? I have recently acquired a 270hp one as a company car and am quite enjoying it, with the way they are depreciating it won’t be long until they are in budget!

A very good looking car.
I've lost track of new cars and had never even heard of an Arteon. Looks quite handsome.

It's a Passat for cool people. Not going to be on your radar, squire.

Oi! (Fair point though smile)

Come to think of it I've never owned a VW.

It's what they renamed the CC.

Ah, is it? In that case I do know what it/it's predecessor is. A pal of mine had one and we went to Le Mans in it 3 years running. I quite liked it.

They seem to be selling well and are very stiking in person, there is a "you haven't had enough to drink piss yellow" colour that I particularly like, makes a lovely change from the usual 50 shades of grey options. They appear to be a very large car?

Those wheels could be factory fit, but I would've expected the bigger brakes which were available as an option from the technical update which was I think for late-1999. Also the wrong colour as noted, they should just be gold iirc.

It does look reasonable, although the MOT history would suggest it's fizzing away a bit underneath. Lovely colours though.

I like the look of this one at £3500, although the wheel and seats will need professional attention by the looks. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/153685622821

I'm a sucker for blue though.

The blue one looks decent value, has the best X308 wheels, and it's parked on gravel. cool

Going slightly OT, I was considering some resin coated gravel for part of my drive: had anyone here got any experience of it?

I feel obliged to re-post r129sl's rather fabulous posting from the last thread, aka Speckled Jim's Thread of Shame.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-Benz-320TE-W12...

I can't upload the picture but it's a green S124. Pricey vee-hickle, but there's a wonderful driveway, a thread-garage, and anyone that describes himself as Mr Muirhead has to be a decent sort; none of that presumptious familiarity for that seller and I rather like it.
Could be worth a quick Google of Mr Muirhead's phone number - looks like he's a dealer. Whilst there's nothing wrong with that in itself, the advert presents as a private seller which would make me ask some more questions.

The car looks lovely though - I do like a pre-facelift W124 with the later engine. I almost wish I hadn't recently spent a similar amount just on the rear suspension and "some welding" on my own E320.

I thought the drive cobbles looked familiar!

Talking of drives, and Harry’s query, I’ve specified it a couple of times. It massively relies on good workmanship, far more than say macadam, and if they don’t get it right there’s no rectifying it. In the right hands it’s good stuff, but see examples of their work first.

I think that looks superb, and for some reason find it more desirable than the XJR's posted later. I'd trade calm wafting and tall sidewalls for rip-snorting performance. The 3.2 is neither powerful or economical, and is a mite too low geared for restful cruising, but it's smooth enough and picks it's feet up very nicely with a few revs. Clockwork reliability of the AJ16 is a bonus.

Also, maybe a little tenuous, but the plate may suit a certain Mercedes loving threadist amongst us?

Saab 9-3 2.8 V6 Aero estate at £1500. PX with a dealer so assume warranty as doesn’t claim otherwise. Unusual at this cash.

One of my neighbours had it done last year, Harry, and I've been watching with interest to see how it lasts.
After the boiling hot weather we had in August and early September, and now that the temperature is falling, I think I spy some cracks appearing...

1) It’s well over thread at £6750.
2) it’s a bad time of year to buy [/sell] a convertible.
3) it’s merely a 220.
4) it needs minor cosmetics.

But, I can’t help but feel this 1997 E220 cab with ~80k on is a bit of a deal at this price.

Is the tax quite high on that? Was looking fairly steep to me on a 1.5 TSI or 2.0 TDi!
