I don’t understand why there’s not an S class or A8 estate made.
It would diminish the perceived prestige of the saloon in the many markets where estates are not seen as prestigious things. It’d also need a lot of re-engineering to fuel tank positioning, rear suspension, bulkhead strength and insulation, and likely not meet NVH refinement requirements for what would be flagship cars.

I agree with your reasoningIt’d also need a lot of re-engineering to fuel tank positioning, rear suspension, bulkhead strength and insulation, and likely not meet NVH refinement requirements for what would be flagship cars.
As you say, estates never seen to be quite as good as the saloon equivalent for NVH. I think that the two big markets (USA and China) would see an estate as something you’d only have because you need something functional. A big saloon shows everyone else that practical considerations are none of your concern because you’re just that big and important.

Touareg 5.0 £3625. There is a tale of immense woe in readers cars on a scruffy one, but this claims to be well cared for in the brief ad. Tempting just to say "I had one"...

How about one that's black AND silver?http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/2019...
Not sure this can be classed as well cared for though....

Would be fantastic though - wrong fuel or not, a V10 ticks many boxes.

Just at the car place now.... He's with another customer now but I've had a look around already and looks pretty tidy. Plenty of tread depth on all 4 Michelins and even decent wheel clearance/ride height around....
Sounds like you just need to ring the bank and let them know you'll be making significant use of your debit card shortly...Not inexpensive, but lovely colours. I would have to delete the spoiler. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/MERCEDES-190E-2-0-AUTO-...
Okay, a bit over budget... but a 34k mile w123 in a nice colour. Slow, but I like it https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-W123-1980-3400...
A good honest ad for what could be a cheap 300 se https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-Benz-300-SE-19...
Right......
I decided not to buy it.
Why? The early service history was poor, the mirror (although this would have been fixed prior to collection) and he was fairly stubborn on price. The best he'd offer was £5100 plus my Corolla....which was more than I wanted to spend at the moment. The recent history was very good though (new exhaust, new rear brake discs and pads, tyres had plenty of tread on them, serviced last back in April this year).
But....the LS460....What did I think? Firstly, it looks better in the metal. You open the door and a nice smell of leather. The seats are magnificently comfortable and very adjustable. The interior felt better than it looks in my opinion and I was surprised at the seating position, it could be made fairly low and made you feel nicely hemmed in. It did feel special. I played around with the toys to ensure everything worked which it did (except the mirror).
Took it for a drive....the engine and gearbox are wonderfully smooth and quiet. The steering is crazily light...something I would have to get used to, and the brake pedal required a fair bit of travel to offer a huge amount of bite. I much preferred the steering and brake pedal feel on the E65. It was very quiet at speed, similar to the E65...if not even more so, but I'd be splitting hairs.
But....an Utterly, utterly brilliant barge. Would I consider one as my future car instead of a CL500? Most definitely, and I likely will. But not just yet. I am glad to have tried one and got a feel for it, and £5100 plus my car for a well sorted example is something I would consider, but not for a few months at least yet.
If the car is still for sale in January, then I may put in an offer of £4850 and see what he says.

I believe that trader has been discussed here and elsewhere several times. Now using a different name but certainly one and the same. mondayo said:

Rear arm rest down. Just about to go for drive. Only issue is the passenger side wing mirror won't fold in or out so that will need sorting. MOT isn't done, despite advert, so can't drive away today anyway....
Sounds like an excellent bargaining chip.I’m going to wager the forecourt will be of the Shell variety. Always nice to treat a new purchase to the good stuff for the first tank before invariably drifting towards supermarket brands. Right?
Good luck LS460Ross!

I'll take that bet, certain in the knowledge that I will win it simply by reading the post 2 above yours. I’m going to wager the forecourt will be of the Shell variety.
