Go with your gut instinct, but IMO you may find another one but if it isn’t local you’ll have the hassle of travelling - I now search autotrader and ebay etc in distance order - I used to travel for hours to be disappointed- family life means I just can’t be arsed to deal with car seller BS - private sellers can be as bad as traders.
This is my concern. I had a brief look earlier and there were 3 or 4 within 75 miles or so. And hey, if next month nothing is available I can just keep saving, and possibly looking for a CL500 of course.... E65Ross said:

My LS400 was incredibly light, my mercs felt manly afterwards and the E39 like it had no power assistance. They are designed to be as easy to operate as a Yaris. The things that other brands go on about (eg steering feel) Lexus deep non-luxurious!

Yeah buy a cheaper car, like this one : https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...
I really fancy another XJ.
We've had it before a few times, which is no surprise, the ad is dated April.I really fancy another XJ.
I suspect there would be some cock and bull given for the non-sale, but you'd think at this price it would have gone, the miles are hardly huge...

Oops! There are quite a few silver XJRs. I will be in Loughborough for my sins in a few weeks time. I'll go and have a look if it's still there. I suspect there would be some cock and bull given for the non-sale, but you'd think at this price it would have gone, the miles are hardly huge...

A good honest ad for what could be a cheap 300 se https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mercedes-Benz-300-SE-19...
Good spot 0a. That looks very honest and rather appealing. Nothing too scary there, even for a biff like me. If I had access to alcohol out here I'm not sure I could trust myself not to bid.

SL2 is on track to arrive in CY next week too. Shipping & Customs is going to be around £1400 all in, and I’m awaiting feedback from the equivalent DVLA. I have a feeling that it’s going to be around €2500 to tax it for a year over there - will likely be spending a lot of time on SORN! Expensive, this hobby of ours.
Promise me you'll treat us all a photo of the dear old stick enjoying a deserved retirement in the sunny Med.
Wasn't always the case.

Life has got in the way the last few days, so catching up... I will have a look on mobile.de so thanks for those suggestions.
We took the 7 today to drop off SL1 at a (new for me) man to finally resolve the roof issues. Side by side comparison on the M58 would suggest that while the SL is by no means slow, the extra 130 or so hp in the 7 means it just walks away without trying. Hardly scientific, but good fun. The fact that in the time the 7 hits 100, the M6 is north of 125 means I won’t be doing an SL/M6 comparison! Acceleration is hardly the most important metric in a barge, but it is one of the most easily tested.
The man has/had an interesting frontage...
Most showed signs of being sat a little while, sadly. (oh, and that’s a 55 and a 65 next to each other).

Looks great. Did you get my email Prinny? I wouldn't mind seeing some exterior/interior shots of your 7 if possible? Doesn't count for the thread as it's so expensive, but look at the interior of this W123: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1984-Mercedes-Benz-W123... PHOOOOR
An old school barge for a cad like CDG. A mere £250 haggle from budget. May be a bit of a project... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1968-STUNNING-JAGUAR-42...

Can you tell me what the servo problem is with these? I’ve put an offer of £800 in so will see how it is received.
That would be a bargain. I paid a lot more than that for one a couple of years ago (tipped off by this very thread) with 100k+ on it. Still can't grumble though - other than petrol and an oil and filter change every 6k miles the only thing that has gone wrong on it was the door locking actuator.Having googled it due to my faulty one it seems it is quite a common problem on these so check *all* the doors lock/unlock on the one you are thinking of buying. A new actuator is apparently >£200 but the failing part is actually a 12v dc motor. I found that the motor itself is used in other japanese cars so just swapped it over with the motor in my wife's old (now SORN) Honda Accord and all now works again without any outlay.

My SLK55 was driven away today by a young chap who was beyond thoroughly nice.
I'm happy that the car is going to be in good care.
I hate selling to people I don't like!
I now have to resist the 'urge to splurge'
Good news then!I'm happy that the car is going to be in good care.

I agree that it's much easier to sell a car to someone you like and will enjoy it.
Splurge urge is a difficult thing
Cracking finds OA.
Had a quick look at "classic Mercedes estates" as a result and spotted this. Looks cracking and has cruise.
Currently sitting at the lower end of thread budget and it's a diesel.

An attractive thing with much novelty appeal, but that is all the money at over 13 grand, and not even a coupe.0a said:

Not a very auspicious advert or dealer - a rare classic at a commercials site rarely inspires much confidence - but that is a lovely car in terrific colours. I looked very seriously at one of these 2 or 3 years back and was sorely tempted. The one thing that put me off then was the sheer size of the bloody thing and the fact I had no garage large enough to keep it.
I'd really love one of these and would be tempted again if I had somewhere to park it up for a while before addressing the work. This one at twice the price might prove to be a cheaper bet in the long term I guess.

Your LS460 journal has been amusing. Top up the back accounts, think of the impracticality of the fridge and savour the hunt for a new vehicle and all of the possibilities. There are lots of good ones out there.
I have been thinking and I may contact the dealer today and be willing to put a small deposit on it later today with a few provisos....He gets the wing mirror sorted and it gets MOTd and any advisories get rectified.
What's drawing me to it is the fact that it's local and has very good recent history. All 4 tyres are matching Michelins and have shed loads of tread left, it has had a new exhaust, new rear brakes and various suspension work done in the last 2-3 years.
The dealer is open today so may ping him a message and pop back up there later this afternoon and see.
I'm terrible, aren't I
