An old school barge for a cad like CDG. A mere £250 haggle from budget. May be a bit of a project... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1968-STUNNING-JAGUAR-42...

Not a very auspicious advert or dealer - a rare classic at a commercials site rarely inspires much confidence - but that is a lovely car in terrific colours.

I looked very seriously at one of these 2 or 3 years back and was sorely tempted. The one thing that put me off then was the sheer size of the bloody thing and the fact I had no garage large enough to keep it.

I'd really love one of these and would be tempted again if I had somewhere to park it up for a while before addressing the work. This one at twice the price might prove to be a cheaper bet in the long term I guess.

The 420 and 420G are completely different cars, sharing just a few components; think E-class / S-class.

My SLK55 was driven away today by a young chap
I passed it on the M8 at the airport around 1615 looking very shiny. Amusing that the first I’ve seen it around was when it was leaving!
Typical laugh

Had a text from the lad just before 1am (at 00.55, coincidentally) to say he’d arrived home.

So, he was out the house at 5.30am, train(s) to Gatwick, one way flight ticket to Glasgow (which was delayed by a couple of hours) clutching a rucksack stuffed with £50 notes, thorough inspection and test drive, hearty haggle and then 8-9 hours to drive home.

The car might not be a barge but it was definitely a top hole barge-style transaction.

I'll hopefully be in a barge by the end of the day. And sleeping in a beachfront hotel.

Sadly, it's a work trip so the barge will be rented, and the end of the day is at least 17 hours of travelling away.

They are probably as divisive as the venerable SC430 that keeps popping up.

For the record, I’d be happy with either (or both). Then again I once bought and ran a Nissan S-Cargo, all with a straight face.

More cars should have bonnet vents.

I suppose speculating on the reasons behind 'selling due to family bereavement' is more for the Council thread than here - as well as being in bad taste - but I suspect that car conforms to a number of easy stereotypes.

Your LS460 journal has been amusing. Top up the back accounts, think of the impracticality of the fridge and savour the hunt for a new vehicle and all of the possibilities. There are lots of good ones out there.
hehe

I have been thinking and I may contact the dealer today and be willing to put a small deposit on it later today with a few provisos....He gets the wing mirror sorted and it gets MOTd and any advisories get rectified.

What's drawing me to it is the fact that it's local and has very good recent history. All 4 tyres are matching Michelins and have shed loads of tread left, it has had a new exhaust, new rear brakes and various suspension work done in the last 2-3 years.

The dealer is open today so may ping him a message and pop back up there later this afternoon and see.

I'm terrible, aren't I hehe

Let us know as I quite fancy that myself but would not interfere with correct barge etiquette!

No need for anything but like the idea of one!

If it won't put you in a financial hole, and you like it, I'd go for it. Assuming the seller will get it up to snuff of course. It sounds like a good car, as you say the recent work makes it look like it's been cared for.

Will do. I pinged him a message earlier, also asking for the VIN because you can check the Lexus service history online if you have the VIN. Not heard back yet.... Been around 2 hours and he's been very quick to reply so far.

I very much appreciate your etiquette. I won't tell him there may be another interested person laugh

Will keep you posted.

Cheers.

This 2010 E350 diesel has dropped from almost £9k to £6.1k now. It it had £150'taken off it since yesterday.

I have emailed the owner, apparently only done 10k miles since all disks and pads done, alloys need a tidy up.

I expect the poverty spec isn't helping but I reckon it's almost in Thread budget territory.

That's a very grown-up car. Confusing comments regarding MOT won't be helping, but looks like it has a new one.

I don't want to further confuse Ross but it would be perfect for a budget-conscious cyclist!

Needs Bentley badges, and it's not a Hemi, the word is being used as a model designation rather than a technical description. I hate that.

Well i am a budget conscious cyclist (although not riden in a few weeks now). Although derv my Indy reckons this engine is the choice over the 2.1 4 pot. I cannot see how 40k less miles and a few options put these in 11-12k territory.

Same colour combo as mine. Would look a lot better with the standard bumpers IMO.

Crikey, that's a lot of car for the money.

I didn't want diesel until everyone started hating them. Now they're worthless and spending less money on fuel and less time in petrol stations is definitely welcome.

Edit: ULEZ friendly too!

I pottered around Edinburgh today, and there were a few nice bargey spots. I followed a lovely e28 for a while, then exchanged waves (the polite, old merc, w124 knowing kind) with a black c124, and then passed this rather nice Jaguar - taxed and MOTed (I checked):
