I have a heated garage, and a large dehumidifier... I really wouldn't care about fuel, but I would definitely care about it breaking down often, or simply requiring a four figure bill every few weeks. hehe

I have always thought (ever since having a toy one as a kid) that these Daimlers are the perfect automotive shape.
There's really nothing to be scared of with running one of these....

....as long as you own your own oil company and national chain of service centres, just go for it.

I've one of these that has been through 18 salty winters in the north and not a speck of rust anywhere underneath. These have to be the most well-galvanised cars ever made.

Was under my S60 of similar vintage at the MOT this afternoon. Whistle-clean, which is nice smile

That's a nice V70, even more so if it's still awd.

£2500 over top thread... but I had to share this, and at this price, I am honestly considering it as a daily driver. I can't think of anything cooler for the money, would I be right in thinking it would be a monumental disaster from beginning to end?

If it’s never been rusty, and always been maintained properly, it could last forever. Buy it, plus a grease gun and a large pot of lithium based molybdenum disulphide grease; 24 points for regular attention, as far as I recall.

You see this is the kind of advice I was afraid of wink

Does no one want to tell me to run for the hills due to steering rack horror stories or £570 road tax?? nono
£570 tax is an irritation I agree and I think this will make some >Mar2006 cars very hard to sell on, but the flip side of this is bargains!! And helps feed this thread!

You are pegged to facelift LS430s if you wish to keep to £325 VED, which is no bad thing as 430s are my favourite. I have read about the £5k steering rack issue on 460s but have not heard anyone on here or LexusOwnersClub who has actually suffered it.

I guess if you go and see it and decide you want it enough, you will be happy to pay the high VED.

The garage who were doing the MOT on the LS460 made a cock up an booked it in for Wednesday rather than today rolleyes If I am very lucky I can still collect tomorrow but I suspect that is very unlikely. Not to worry, the shed/Corolla still has basically a full tank of fuel!

Hoorah!: My x356R perma-firm suspension appears to be fixed. A cracked NSR RH sensor was restricting movement in the downward plane only (no DTC generated)

Recommend SSG Automotive in Ottershaw, Surrey if anyone needs JLR servicing.

Boo!: just paid £570 road tax..I’m tempted to drive it into central London just because.

Next steps: MOT, then replace some of the front bushes (including steering rack) with a mix of poly and OEM rubber.

Apropos of nothing, that's a superb collection of cars you've got!

If it's of any use looked at a CLS at that dealer 2 years ago. Very nice guy trades from his home and had personally owned some quality barges. Infact that Jag may well be his own.

Thanks fellas.

But can someone please explain this whole green digital clock thing to me?!

I very much hope the car gets fixed tomorrow..... Then forecourt shots on Wednesday (along with THAT rear armrest, of course wink )
Can't wait to see these. I'm currently going down this route, chopping in the Saab 9-3 for something more wafty. Any opinions on this anyone?

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201...

Aside from the naff wheels looks half decent. It's currently between a 460, GS300s or possibly CLS350s? Petrol, auto, preferably not ruinous..........anyone any better ideas?
Horrible wheels. Excellent MOT history. Excellent colour combination. Good price. Get it.

Then fight with E65Ross like KITT and KARR

yes

Rear armrest is satisfying enough, but it's the clock that's the money shot.

Also take a look at the 430. More of them around, cheaper, lower tax, no steering rack issues (if that's really a thing).

Did they really make these until 1991. Crazy! I absolutely love it though.

I recall only the V12Double Six was still being made in that shape. Guess it didn't fit under the XJ40 bonnet but the Queen still wanted one so they had to keep making it. It must have been abysmal up against a 750i of the time!!
Corrected that for you smile

For those wanted to rent a ride in this model and marque, visit the V8 hotel in Stuttgart, along with a fruity friend

So, immediate:

New backbox: £228
Handbrake cables: £132
Crankshaft pulley: £339
Clutch slave cylinder: £168
Brake fluid and clean and attach CV boot clip to NSF inner driveshaft gaiter: £93.60
New radiator and replace corroded bumper brackets: £420

Total: £1,380.60

Not immediate, worth doing in the future:

Front suspension refurb and subframe renovation: £1090
Welding to osf body lower sill and floor: £600
Sundry items - clips, welding materials, fluids bla: £100

Total: £1790

Plus bodywork issues to resolve at some point.

Hmm ... that's quite a few months of PCP payments that would be gone in one fell swoop to drive a 20 year old Alfa ...

That's a common occurrence on my now 150,000 miles S211 E500 - however, I purchased it at 116,000 miles, twenty four months ago. I know that I'll drive the reliability and investment from it myself.

I don't think it is. When I was looking at common issues it wasn't one that crept up on the Lexus forums. Maybe 1 or 2 suffered with them and created a bit of a scaremongering effect, but it doesn't seem to be a common problem.

So, give me about 6 months? hehe
