What a lovely thing, needs the drivetrain from a Celica GT4 and lowering a bit! What a thing that would be.

That must be one of the last registered pre-facelifts. Nice colours
Yep the k plates are right on the swop over
I keep forgetting i had a 1993 E320 Coupe for 6 months (before the SEC came along). The quality was felt a step down from the 190e i owned beforehand. Cheaper plastics, rattles etc but the engine and drivetrain made up for it - it drove really really well.

Got a soft spot for that engine/body combo

This might get me excommunicated, but I didn’t feel my W124 was quite the same quality product as my W201.

I’d love to learn the actual metrological / quantitative truth, if there is one.

Difficult to quantify unless you're comparing brand new specimens of each model, which we clearly can't do.

My personal (albeit limited, admittedly) experience comparing a W214 with a W201 aligns with our resident Pigeon above.

Even the sniffiest passengers of mine (3 boys under the age of 26) have admitted that a 190e is 'not that bad.'
I'll take that as a win.

I’d argue to the contrary all day long!

I have been in, and driven, 2 190Es now. They're OK but I don't think they're exactly fantastic boxedin I have only driven 1 W124, I much preferred it over the 190E. Probably doesn't help that the 190Es I drove were both the 2.0, which in my opinion, is one of the dullest petrol engines ever fitted to any car.

Went & picked up SL2 this morning, the sum total of issues down to transportation in a container from M’boro to Limassol would appear to have been a dislodging of the OSR indicator bulb, so 10 secs to tweak & it’s fully functional again. Fired right up.

Quick splash over with a hosepipe, then hardtop off and off for a shakedown pootle around the W of the island.

Polis’ MB appreciation society.

Had an MPH clock set, so likely a UK car. Couldn’t see any rust, but its obviously not moved in a while.

Ayios Georgious harbour. (sadly a bit too busy for a good shot)

And some old MB’s on the road back toward Paphos too (and one happy dad driving it) wink

After a 60 mile-ish trip, things to report/fix.
  • there’s a slight oil leak somewhere - NSF of the block as serp belt is a bit greasy.
  • this should come as no surprise to anyone who has driven one, but the 4-spd box isn’t the best for the hills & valleys, manual intervention required to make good progress & use every overtaking opportunity.
  • I am as useless as ever, and even in late November, need factor 50 sunscreen to be able to manage the ride without sunburn. (I think I’ve just about got away with it).
Once we get the call in a few days, off for inspection & new plates. I will then email Zonergem a few ‘exclusive’ pics (not like that! get your mind out of the gutter) and it’ll maybe, maybe help him restart the thread here: https://forums.mbclub.co.uk/threads/confessions-of...

I need to find my brother a car. He was planning to go the route of a recent Corsa/Fabia/similar but I think I’ve persuaded him of the virtues of an older Lexus.

Does anyone know anything about the IS220d? Most of his driving is decent motorway runs so I’m thinking diesel is good and DPF shouldn’t be a big problem. We have spotted this one:

No experience, but they have a fairly poor reputation for things like head gaskets and low MPG even when working.

Hmm. I wonder what would be a better option then. He’s very keen on them now.

I don’t think he’d go to a GS or LS. Maybe an IS250

Not a bad idea! I’ll scout around. I wonder if the IS220d is bad, or just bad by Lexus standards. If so, it’s probably pretty good overall
