It’s a 2006 XJ8 Sovereign LWB
- 231k miles
- Fresh MOT as of yesterday
- Very comprehensive history
Mega spec;
- 2+2 Configuration
- Rear Entertainment Pack (DVD player, TV etc)
- Heated Seats & Wheel
- Comfort/wafty spec 18” wheels
- Double Glazing
- etc etc

I do a lot of miles so it could see 250k (hopefully) relatively soon.

It’s taken it’s miles extremely well. Seat bolsters are great, the bodywork has a few ally corrosion areas but nothing to worry about.

Interested to see how it compares to my previous v8’s
What does that sort of car go for with that mileage?
Love high mileage cars.
Closer to the lower end of the thread budget than the higher. I’ll not post the exact amount incase the previous owner has any issues with me publishing it.

I’d sold the Lexus for an L322 but quickly realised winter is not the time to find a ‘cheap’ one.

Super work on the XJ8!

I did over 400 miles in the W124 E320 today, just under 750 since yesterday morning, with the last 100 odd being on nice deserted A roads allowing a slightly more exercising drive.

I love these old things! There must be something wrong with me. Many other cars are 'better' than the old merc, but I relish adding healthy miles to them more than the other barges I have owned.

I'm sure AT used to have a minimum mileage option.

I'd love to be able to sort by highest mileage first, then 4 litre minimum and see what silly cars there are.

I've been watching these for a bit... won't be long before they are in thread territory.

I'm a bit wary of the SMG... are they troublesome and stupid?
SMG? I thought they would have a normal ZF torque converter automatic. Wasn’t SMG for E36 and E46 M3 and E60 M5?
Correct, they do not have an SMG unit, just the standard ZF.
According to this purchase they are already within thread budget

Over 4litre then newest 1st usually picks up higher mileage ones.

Without having driven either (or looked at the history, etc), I’d probably pick the 1st. It’ll ride better on the 19” wheels and it’s got the cooled seats (and looks to have the rear A/C too - which means it should have a fridge in the back as well). That’s the “only” options missing from mine. They’re also - amusingly - ULEZ compliant!

W124 beards: how visible should the ATF line on the dipstick be? I've picked up my car - with its ongoing noise - from the mechanic this morning, and checking the ATF dipstick it looks to be at about the bulb on the end of the dipstick (ie too low), but I haven't checked it before.

The stick is damp, but I can't see a clear line on it. Is that an indication the fluid is too low?

Next question: what fluid should I use?

Thanks!

It needs to be checked with the car up to temperature and the engine running. The markings on my car’s dipstick are pretty clear. I use Fuchs 4000 ATF but any Dexron III fluid will do.

Drove to London from Grimsby and back over the weekend to see Underworld at Wembley arena, the E38 never missed a beat. What I found quite incredible was that the whole of 430 miles was done on £60 of fuel!

The 728i is a surprisingly frugal lump.

ok ok so at 6995 its a little over thread budget - but this 5.5 CLK500 Elegance has a sweet engine and i dont think this model had the air suspension? more pics would have been nice --

I 'may' have been idly perusing CLK offerings for a while - don't know why, no budget for one etc. - and cannot decide whether the V8 is a sound choice or a newer 3.5 V6. First world problems, eh?

I think the 5.5 probably wins by default...unless I magic up £100k for a Black edition.

I'm really interested in this one myself, its not got any fangled air suspension, and not supercharged unless i'm mistaken.
The only thing would be more interior pics and to know if it has the drop rear seats to the boot which i think was optional.

Same thing happened to me. Apparently my 2000 LS400 is a 2005 Corolla.

hehe

No idea what's going on! I only found it at the weekend and it was fine for two Jeeps and the Merc above.
But my wife's car doesn't work - gets the marque correct, but nothing else - so apologies if it's a red herring. I thought it might be really useful! wobble
