It can't just be me looking at that piece of wood, and thinking some snotty 12yr old made that in woodwork

Ah, but the Ovlov has the 3-memory seats of power!
When buying my CLS I refused to buy one without 3 memory seats of power. Despite only 2 of us driving the car. Mrs PD called me a prat..I now feel exonerated.
An executive barge should have memory seats, bonus points if the headrests are electric too. Don’t know why Audi insist on only offering manual headrests in the A6. First world problems eh?

There's something to do with those engines breaking that you need to be aware of. I think it's something to do with camshafts and needing to know the engine/chassis number.... hopefully an adult/someone who knows what they're talking about, will be along shortly to give a a proper answer.

I'm never sure about the looks of the S212, but if that's the metallic sort of bronze/brown colour, I do like them in that flavor.
With the E350 I'd assume you can easily get over 30mpg out of it on a run, possibly as an average too, if you weren't too lead footed.

Whilst that one isn't cheap, it's quite a bit cheaper than this one, that's been for sale for quite a while and it's older but with less miles.

I thought it was the early E500 cars which had a camshaft problem.

There is this one as well from a particular seller (Sterling Cars) on the bay of dreams.

They're both sat at under £3.5k with less than an hour to go. What am I missing?

I always think there's something dodgy about Sterling Cars cars but no evidence to back that up.

I suppose every single car they sell has to be considered spares/repairs/scrap.

That's what i've gleaned from reading their adverts, anyway.

S60R £3495. Hideous ad, tints and suspension seems high, but cheap either way. Low miles too.

...with front calipers large enough to stop a freight train. Not quite a barge, but interesting, but also not an estate.

I really like their MO to be honest. I've never bought a car from them, but if the right car at the right time and price cropped up I'd definitely roll the dice.

They're very explicit that as long as you turn up, you're perfectly free to reject the car if you don't like it. Seems very straight-forward to me. They're not at all set-up to handle messers or post-sale whiners (or folk expecting any kind of rights or after-care whatsoever, TBH!) but the prices are often low, so you pays your money...

Treat it like any private sale and expectations can't be too high.

pop a 2019 map dvd in for £50 and it'll be perfectly usable.

did that in my 2008 is250 with pretty much the same system and it worked perfectly fine, even up to date road works etc.

If anything I'd say you're less likely to have issues with them than some of the dodgy small garages around who bodge faults to hide them. These guys effectively just re-sell stock they cadge off BCA with volume being the objective.

Inspect it like a private sale, give it a good test drive (which they allow and encourage) and away you go. If I was closer I'd have bought from them by now I'm sure.

I'm with SJ. The vendor has set his stall out clearly and you can drive and then reject the car if you so wish. Seems pretty fair enough to me

I note he also has a LS430 and a V70R

In fact he's only 20 minutes from me so I have no idea why I haven't had a look around.

Both of those look good - the LS looks pretty clean for its mileage.

And there a few other places where it can be even cheaper! wink

Plus - you can add the basic GROM audio unit to get Bluetooth audio streaming (for about £150). If you really want to splash the cash their VLine Unit (giving screen mirroring) does even more!

I miss my GS frown

My colleague bought a threadworthy S211 from them. They were exactly as described, you turn up and if you didn't like it you didn't have to buy it.

Furthermore it was missing one of the advertised 2 keys and with no bother they arranged for a replacement, furthering the view that they do exactly what they say they will.

Appreciate that Sterling Cars / carswithnoreservereading link, I hadn't heard of them before.

I've been trying to find a place I could go to that has a variety of interesting bargey-shedy cars to look at in one place, without having to pay the sort of fees BCA would charge. Maybe this is it.

Looking at their ebay history is interesting, you can see how many times cars 'sell' on ebay before they disappear from ebay, presumably actually bought by someone.

Take for example this Volvo V70:

4 November 'sold' on ebay for £647:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2005-VOLVO-V70-2-4-D5-S...

But then relisted...

12 November same car 'sold' on ebay for £510:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2005-VOLVO-V70-2-4-D5-S...

this time the item description on ebay has added to it the following: 'PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS CAR WILL NEED RECOVERY. THE CAR IS LISTED AS SPARES OR REPAIRS DUE TO AN ALTERNATOR ISSUE. IT DRIVES FINE THOUGH.'

And once again it got relisted...

17 November same car 'sold' on ebay for £461:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2005-VOLVO-V70-2-4-D5-S...

It didn't get relisted again, so maybe that time it actually sold.

Plenty of thread worthy barges at that sale. I like this. Wheels not correct but may be a substitute for the orginal metric wheels. My old E23 had metric sombreros and I swapped them for normal steelies and hub caps.
