Thanks chaps. It is pretty strict and they don't take prisoners. That said, it's a very slick non-stop operation with a series of stations checking different things and the guys there were all cheerful and helpful. I suspect not many UK MOT stations ask all the punters what language they prefer to speak in; Lux, French, German or English. I found it very professional and quite impressive, although a (different) station reduced one of my female colleagues to tears with repeated failures for minor issues a year or two back.

I now face the dilemma of keeping it to reap the benefits of my 'investment' in it, or replacing it with something tax-free and Volvo V60-like. First world problems...

I'd stick with it if it were me. Is the LS430 'peak-Lexus'? It's a tough call but no doubt an excellent motor car.

With the new reg plate due tomorrow? maybe more barges will appear for sale, LS430, 728, 740, 9-5 Aero etc.
I like the way you think. Related to that - someone in the next street over has good barge taste. Very clean L322 FFRR V8 in blue with cream leather, no tints, GRRC sticker in the window. And a blue 6 series with AC Schnitzer body kit and split rims for the weekend.

I’ve often thought about popping a note under the windscreen wiper of the FFRR, expressing an interest if it ever comes up for sale. Until I walked past last week, and they’ve clear traded it in because there’s a new L405 instead, blue with cream leather and no tints...

I’d say either the mkI or the mkIV 400 were the best embodiment of the LS philosophy so far.

Of the lot, I’d most rather have a 460.

Does anyone know where I could get a drivers side w124 ribbed carpet? It’s annoying me that I have three mint condition OEM mats and the drivers is missing.

Have we had this yet? sorry if so - haven't had a chance to check PH as much as possible recently!

Has a good MOT history and low miles looks pretty honest (rubbish photos!)

My 528 touring is biarritz blue and it is a lovely colour ( mine has done 3 times the miles though...)

Coincidentally I called to see this local early LS400 yesterday, something I do now and again, with thoughts of doing the same. Parked in a private spot, it reveals itself every autumn and then disappears again from view of the main road in spring when the hedge comes into foliage.

It appears to drive to the MOT station and back again annually, and that’s about it. An increasingly rare car, in the same spec as the one I lusted after in CAR magazine as a lad after it objectively won the contest over a RR Silver Spirit.

I’ve resisted leaving a note as I need another car in my life like I need another hole in my arse. But somehow, a la Wayne’s World, I have a feeling that one day, you will be mine.

Oh and just to clarify the results of the LS-off, the mkIV ‘400 is the car.

It's certainly true that the LS430 doesn't have that grippability.

I don't really know about Lexi because I find them a bit naff, but the answer is whichever one it is that looks like a W140 drawn by someone who isn't that good at drawing and was driven by Harry in the television series Spooks.

Great bit of Phaeton interior footage. Haven’t come across these guys before but they’re rewardingly bearable for YT

Small thread victories continue. The Lux equivalent of the MOT is the CT and the centralised testing stations are renowned for cutting no-one any slack ever. The 18 year old Lexus has just passed however, so the knuckle-biting tension is relieved.
Congratulations!
