Ach, it's only gone when the money has changed hands and the new owner's on his way home with it...
We shall see.

Replacement?

I'm going to enjoy the 190e for now, because it's utterly wonderful.

It looked tidy and seemed to run well enough, but I was surprised to see it bid to £21,000, and remain unsold; I just don't see that kind of money for an old Mercedes.
Bloody hell mate, know your audience. It's gonna kick-off in here after that! smile
Yeah, you’ve embarrassed yourself there...
You need to be reflecting and genuflecting, ting n ting.
Never, for a tad over half the £21,000 not accepted for that Merc on Saturday, one could have had: Lot 43 a clean Bentley Turbo R, and Lot 18 an honest Volvo Amazon estate, in neither, would one be mistaken for a minicab driver, or an unsuccessful drug dealer.

Interesting drive home through the mean (and wet) streets of Sheffield last night.
The good: got to use the raised ride height.
The not so good: the 12.4mpg

Interesting Toyota, yes really, over thread at 6k and the bd child of a RAV4 front and Land cruiser rear, but still, 3.5V6 in there makes up for it. I give you the not sold in the UK, Kluger.

I can never make up my mind on these. It seems a lot of car for the money though. 1 owner claimed as well but short MoT

The performance isn't at all bad for such a heavy car, and big petrol stuff often beats the official fuel consumption figures in practice.

A few bob to spend for the next MOT, if last year's advisories have not been dealt with:

small oil leak from power steering bottle
Front Brake disc worn, but not excessively (1.1.14 (a) (i))
Rear Brake disc worn, but not excessively (1.1.14 (a) (i))
steering rack mount bushes worn
Offside Rear Brake pipe corroded, covered in grease or other material (1.1.11 (c))
Nearside Front Lower Suspension arm ball joint has slight play (5.3.4 (a) (i))
Offside Front Lower Suspension arm ball joint has slight play (5.3.4 (a) (i))
Nearside Rear Lower Suspension arm ball joint has slight play (5.3.4 (a) (i))
Offside Rear Lower Suspension arm ball joint has slight play (5.3.4 (a) (i))
oil pipe from gear box leaking oil
Offside Play in steering rack inner joint(s) ()
Nearside Front Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
Offside Front Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
Nearside Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))
Offside Rear Tyre worn close to legal limit/worn on edge (5.2.3 (e))

I quite like it too. Obviously it's no hard-core G Class - more Ross Kemp than Bear Grylls - but as a credible cruiser with off-road capability, and at just over 3 grand for an AMG, it seems entertaining enough for me.

Absolutely lamentable quality, mind.

Wouldn't thank you for one of these.

Didn't Magna Steyr build the AMG ones of these, rather than being built in the US?

Perhaps a slight exaggeration.

I would thank you for one of these, so that I could sell it and buy an 80% rust Rover P6.

Service history up to 97k and it's now on 118k... that single owner starting saving for his next car quite a while before trading in...

Thought I'd post my recently acquired barge! It's a 2005 3.6 XJ8. I purchased it from my friend who'd owned it since December last year. It was originally a shady Facebook Marketplace purchase, listed up in Norfolk with no V5 and no MOT. Apparently the previous owner had died and the car had sat around for a while at a garage. My friend applied for the V5 and it arrived fairly quickly, turns out it had just the 1 previous owner. It had around 204000 miles at purchase, and now has 212500. Despite the mileage though, it runs very nicely and genuinely doesn't feel like it's done anywhere near that many miles. It's worn the miles very well, the only real obvious sign of wear in the interior is the steering wheel; it's otherwise devoid of knocks and rattles and it's a very relaxing place to cover miles.

My friend and I did a 3200 mile road trip in it in June. The plan was to head to Bialystok, Poland to visit a friend of mine, then continue south and make our way back a slightly more interesting way, we covered 9 countries total (including Romania) and the Jag didn't miss a beat! The temperatures were in the mid 30s in Eastern Europe at that time, thankfully the AC is excellent. We also did a 1500 mile trip to the Isle of Skye in May where it also performed fantastically. Hopefully it'll continue to do so under my ownership!

Excellent purchase, magnificent photo and continental long haul usage... all in a vehicle that wears over 200,000 miles. That's what this thread's about. Chapeau.

In the meantime, subsequent to two recent visits to my indy, Magnus is back in again with a strange creaking from the nsf that only comes about after a few minutes of driving... I hope that it's something simple such as a toad within a tennis ball stuck in a spring.

Yup, with pictures please! I think this is the CL I saw at a meet a number of years ago.... Has there been a reader's car thread on it? I used to dislike the C140 CL but over time I've come to like it. It's not pretty, but it's just a huge sod off coupe with lots of leather biggrin
