Bravo Ferrari !!!!! I was worried that Ferrari had bought into electrification being the only route forward and the 812 being the last of the breed.

Manufacturers don't give in and conform, they make the best compromises for the required price point. Ferrari have the luxury of being able to pass the cost of these developments on to their paying customers, who do not number very many in relation to the general buying public.
Thye generally do though - it takes a Dyson or a Mazda (who don't sell luxury cars) to come out with innovative designs .. https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/technology/unde... .. there's no reason the technology above won't filter into mainstream cars. The idea is already used in F1 cars so to some extent it's already been developered.
Haven't you heard? Dyson have cancelled their car because, as I've pointed out, they can't find a way to make it commercially viable... https://www.newscientist.com/article/2219673-cance...

Thanks for helping re-enforce what I'm saying! smile
I meant their sucking devices rather than their cars!

i suspect she is smart enough to know they sell in tiny numbers and normally do very small mileage so have no real measurable impact on the environment
I'm not sure she is...

The article is not quite correct. The document published by the USPTO is neither "approved" nor "a patent". It is an application for a patent that has been published prior to the application being examined for patentability. The application is also not limited to V12s - it seeks to cover engines with at least one cylinder.

Good to see them using the F1 tech in wider applications, anything that keeps that astonishing V12 in production for a few more years is good for me.

It still amazes me that the F1 teams are not shouting from the rooftops about efficiency - Mercedes reckoned that they passed 50% thermal efficiency a couple of year back, compared to 30% in the old cars. An F1 car averages around 7mpg over the course of a race, which is better than most road cars would average on a track day (and an awful lot faster!).

Lol!

Yeah it’s a shame so much gets lumped on car manufacturers and then you hear the y ferry and shipping companies dumping their carbon captured from exhaust directly into the ocean. Not to mention lots of other industries which are horrendous polluters, but all we get is - “we’re taking away your good engines and forcing you into milk floats”.

Pretty sure the planet is better off with us keeping our cars for longer rather than buying a Tesla or the likes.

Happy to read about the engine; less so about the unedifying spectacle of a bunch of keyboard warrior blokes sniggering at a young person who has the courage of her convictions.

Even if you meant their vacuum cleaners, the point still stands - they couldn't make a car work at a viable pricepoint to make it profitable for them. Ferrari will suffer less from this problem because, as I said, they simply pass on the development costs to their customers (who can obviously afford them) as opposed to the masses in general...

One of my clients work closely with Greta. She is protected by Swedish government security services who have never seen the volume or severity of threats this 16 year old faces daily. She’s sailed international waters in other to make speeches in front of the UN. She’s very aware of what she’s doing, far more so I would wager than the vast majority of people.

Despite being fully behind securing the sustainable future of diverse life on the planet, I’m equally glad Ferrari are protecting their legacy, and our passion and enjoyment, as long as they can given their negligible impact.

Ok

Possibly she's bright enough to realise that whilever 'halo' brands like Ferrari and Lamborghini are making big, inefficient engines aspirational, their influence will extend much beyond the small numbers of cars that they themselves produce.

What we need is for supercar manufacturers to wake up, smell the coffee and follow Gordon Murray's lead into a future where it's all about light weight, efficiency and driver satisfaction, instead of pissing competitions on meaningless statistics.

So aside from Ferrari and Mazda are any other manufacturers still flying the flag for natural aspiration??

I don't think the Fez is exactly crap to drive.
