Current WRC regs mean it’ll probably be 1.6 turbo. What’s a safe reliable limit for that power wise ? 230 ? Add in 4wd weight of all new safety stuff.
It’s gonna be hard make this special, but this is Toyota.

Do they have to have the same engine? Or just (mostly) the same bodyshell? They haven't needed a 1.6 turbo Yaris thus far to compete in WRC.

I wonder if they'll go for a tried and tested supercharged 1.8. After all, that's what's in the GRMN, and the Lotus Elise 250 has a version already designed to make 243bhp...

Oh jeez no, I'm just guessing that it would make sense to keep it inline with their WRC cars from a marketing respect.

Ooh yes please Toyota!!! That said I actually think it would be more fun as a sleeper without the flared arches, but I'm wierd.

This could be a fantastic commuter car. Price dependent of course!

I’m excited by this the GRMN came just after I purchased my Abarth 595 so wasn’t going to trade in.

I’m looking to move on and whilst I would happily take on an another Abarth the prices seem to be climbing without additional equipment.

Let’s hope it’s as exciting as it promises.

What a disappointment. I hope it's got some of the aero kit similar to the WRC. Put the big double wing on it and a diffuser and we'll be talking.
Something off about this model...no rear disc brakes apparent in the photos.

If Toyota commit to this properly it will be a belter, but it will all depend on the price. £30k+ more than likely

I fully expect this to be a 1.6t. One of the reasons there isn't an R5 Yaris yet is due to a lack of suitable engine, as that class uses more standard road parts.

It needs a proper rear wing!

Impressive bodywork, I thought the days of special bodywork for hot hatches in this segment was a thing of the past. Could be very interesting!

Ooh, turns out there's a JDM Toyota Vitz that's 4wd with multi link suspension, so it could be done...

I'm going to look like a prat if I'm wrong but I'm hoping for a 4wd monster. smile

I can even forgive too many doors if it means a 4wd hatch with some rally pedigree.

No clue really on the WRC regs, but seems like they are using a specially built 1.6 turbo. There's a bit of detail on the press site from 2015 when they launched the WRC Yaris.

Powerwise, Peugeot got more than 270 PS out of their "Prince" engine they used in the highest power RCZ. So that should not be an issue wink.

But what are they going to use for a non-limted GR4 Yaris? Think the Elise engine is a bit too uncommon, anything NA is going to be down on power or too big. Leaves us with the two turbos they do -- a 1.2 and the 2.0 mostly used in the Lexus range.

Let's hope the latter fits...

The driver Morizo, is in fact the owner and president of Toyota Motor Corp. When you come to think of it, realise that that really is crazy stuff. Even the most well known makers of so called race bred cars, like Ferrari, don't have anyone high up in their hierarchy who can drive at a professional level.

Im ordering this if the powertrain is even mildly interesting.

1.6 turbo and 220+ bhp and proper rear-biased 4WD and its gonna be such a little hoot.

first thing you do is remap downpipe and bigger turbo and 300+ is easy

Surely there's a case for following the ST165, ST185 and ST205 and giving this the GT-FOUR name?

The Supra has come back... persistent rumours of an MR-2 return... There may not be room amongst all that for a Celica, but if the Yaris took up the GT-FOUR badging, you'd have almost a full 90's spread! smile

I very much doubt they'd then produce an AWD road car.

Ford don't with the Fiesta. Nor does VW with the Polo.

More likely FWD with around 200 bhp
What say you now? hehe

Sadly that link makes it sound more like a badging exercise.
