I think the elephant in the room for this sector is McLaren.
I would find it difficult to pay this much cash for anything else. 12C are available at this price and lower, 540/570 slipping into range.
Running costs probably a bit higher, but ...
Yup running costs for McLaren are eye watering.I would find it difficult to pay this much cash for anything else. 12C are available at this price and lower, 540/570 slipping into range.

Maybe an Indi charges lots less, not sure.
I'd buy the Gt4 and have done with it unless you need 4 seats. Even then i'd not go with the Mustang

You can keep your £80k (you'll need it for maintenance).
I've found you a car 50/50 weight distribution, with a more spectacular engine, more spacious interior (no really) and achingly beautiful looks the BMW will never have for less than half your budget. It's almost factory fresh too with 6k miles:

If I was looking for a front engine, rear drive, MANUAL transmission compact coupe for £70-80k I would really struggle to see beyond this:

or if you needed the comfort of a warranty:

I like this too. I wonder what hire cars they keep in stock? Think Aston Martin, think warranty. https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...

Are McLarens any more reliable than the MP4/12c was?
I know that was a first attempt at a road car for modern McLaren, but Hoovies Garage videos on YouTube were eye opening to say the least. $150k plus of warranty work and not uncommon it seems either.
A McLaren is not any more a competitor for a BMW than a Ferrari would be, it is just that McLaren depreciated enough to make it look like it might be.

And apart from Porsche (a bit biased😋) so much nicer than anything bmw or aston has to offer.. You can keep your £80k (you'll need it for maintenance).

Other than the engine position caveat, I think this wins by a country mile for me:
