Mine was a 4.7 MC shift too and used it all year round for the couple of years I owned it. I didn't have a garage at the time so it lived in a tent! It was replaced by my 599

Best Maserati since they took a 355 v8 and added two turbochargers in my opinion.
When did they do that?
Now you've made me take a Quattroporte mk IV owners comment from a pre Google era and research it.. it turns out I may have been misinformed :,( so many years of blissful ignorance ruined.

Had one from July 2015 to April 2019, 4.2 Grigio Touring with Rosso Corallo interior, with Larini x-pipe and mufflers. Did 30.000 km with her, loved it.

Replaced it with an Aston Martin Vantage N420, a different kind of experience.

Beautiful cars. I enjoyed three hassle-free years of ownership of a 4200CC, and since selling it have missed the gruff V8 soundtrack. looking forward to buying a GT soon. the early cars are dropping towards 20k. you'd need a brave pill..

My feeling is that GranTourismo should have ceased production five years ago. I find it baffling that a replacement to rival Aston Martin, Ferrari, and Bentley has not been developed. Something is amiss at Maserati and they are truly a shadow of their former selves. They have a great history of building some of the most beautiful cars, but their range now sucks.
I read that the GT replacement - supposedly Alferi - was delayed so they could get the Levante out on the market quicker, but feel they've massively underestimated that. Yes, the SUV market is huge and everyone else premium doing it, but the Levante is ugly. Very ugly. And expensive. The Alfa Stelvio has also pissed on its chips as it offers more engine options.

The Ghibli was a good idea, tackling top end BMWs and Mercedes, but the execution wasn't that great. Looks good, but inside was disappointment.

Old Quattroporte had a big following but the new ones a bit too bland, strangely.

Like to see a new range for Maserati, but it's always been a forgotten brand, both for customers and within the Fiat group. Huge shame.

Enjoyed having one of these 4.7S auto

Luscious

I don’t think the design needs much tweaking for today’s market. The interior and infotainment is behind the times, but that could be dealt with.

The 3.2 biturbo had nothing to do with the Ferrari 355 engine as it was a development from the biturbo v6 designed under De Tomaso ownership.
Now that was a superb engine and to my mind it suited the Maserati brand better than the Ferrari derived V8 that followed it. In the QP iv evo manual I drove, it was really very impressive at making distance shrink very quickly indeed. It didn’t need the high revs that the current lump needs to produce its power.

Loved my Sportline & really miss it the closest to it is the LC500 but it doesn't have the same amount of character.

Apart from the Mustang (and Lexus?) are there any nat-asp V8s left in production now? Makes me think I should keep the Stang longer than planned....

Great looking car indeed. Would have had one if they ever came with a manual. I hope the replacement won't be just a hybrid or electric. But it's looking like it.

A GT is very high on my list for a 40th birthday treat in 12 months time. I need a genuine 2+2, with a sonorous V8 that can be used as a daily if needed. I have my heart set on a 2013 facelifted 4.7 with dark exterior and a tan/cream interior. I’m hoping just over £30ish k will be enough to get me a decent example.

That’s a pretty long run-up to a punchline...but I agree, the one-off paint job looks a bit cac.

In general though, this has always been a car I’ve really liked without really being able to say why. Perhaps it’s just the sound...

Sad. Yet another mail in the coffin of classy cars, which don't need silly vents and aggressive bits to stand out, have an engine that possess character which varies within the rev range, and looks fresh after a good few years. People on this site seem to put too much emphasis on the information and entertainment gadgets imo. Do they really need them? If only this had been offered with a manual gearbox. Still a car which makes heads turn on a way that no nasty electric thing will.

Very pretty car. I think it was a little behind the curve when launched and a long way off by now. But in reality, it all comes down to what you’re expecting from the car.

The two big positives, being truly beautiful, and a lovely engine, will be enough to keep a loyal following for many years yet.

Great knowledge, thanks for sharing. I always had a soft spot for the De Tomaso, you've also expanded my knowledge on that front as I thought they only ever used ford engines like the Pantera

You need a certain mindset to run a Maser....For daily use, an RS5/7 is more practical, quicker, cheaper to service, uses less fuel, better put together, more toys inside, and more reliable.

My b-i-l refers to my Maserati as a "poor mans Alfa Romeo", probably due to what it has cost to run it the last 6 years.

If you do buy one and think you've made a mistake, just pop along to the Morgan Owners night and you'll suddenly feel quite normal again smile
