I love Audis but this is just utter dross FFS. Let’s stick an enormous Audi shaped grill on some non descript shape. To be honest it’s not just Audi, all the big Germans are at it. I’m the biggest petrol head ever but the utter snooze inducing st that all the big manufacturers are producing currently do absolutely nothing for me. I’m a serial car swapper but my current S5 is nearly 5 years old now and next to nothing built today lights my fire,
Edit and just to add, 2.25 tons?... really Audi’s selling point for the originall a/s8 was it was aluminium bodied and hence (at the time) quite light for the segment.

This
All current Audi's look hideous with the across the range generic look, this one just has a larger portion of hideous thrown in.
Once out of the three year warranty collosal Depreciation will see it worth a bag of sand, electrical gremlins will see to that..
The current crop look hideous, and all this 'new technology' they harp on about will probably fail.
So, overall, a resounding "no".

Well, Audi simply learnt it from Land Rover. This type of three screen at the front and three more at the back has been on the Range Rover for ages. Nobody seems to have problems with the set up when it’s the British brand did it. In fact, almost all LR models have three screens at the front now. And the quality of those screens are worse in LR than Audi...Augustus Windsock said:
Love the idea of this as a car but I couldn’t bring myself to own one from new as the depreciation will be epic.
Plus as a car on the used market in say 5 years time, it would make my wallet tremble with fear at the thought of any of its complex electrical systems going Pete Tong.
And finally, I’d always have this image in the back of my mind that I’m buying a car that looks like a xerox’d version of a model that’s £60k+ cheaper....
Just wait for leasing deal when no one buys new S8 ;-) I will certainly wait and hope there will be some sell off. Still have 1 more year on A8 to run, so might be good timing. I would not go for standard A8 D5 as I don't see anything interesting in it, but S8 sounds/look better.Plus as a car on the used market in say 5 years time, it would make my wallet tremble with fear at the thought of any of its complex electrical systems going Pete Tong.

Just looks like an A4. For that kind of money, I'd want it to look a little different.
I know they're aimed at different people, but surely an RS6 would be the better car for that money?
I always shake my head in disbelief at comments like 'Just looks like an A4'I know they're aimed at different people, but surely an RS6 would be the better car for that money?
Please stop and read that. Do you really think Audi - for the last 25 years of doing the same - don't realise their A8 'looks like an A4' ; here's a clue it. is. supposed. to. Same with Mercedes and BMW. Don't be shocked to realise continuity throughout their ranges. They've done that on purpose, don't you know?
The whole selling point of the A8 is that it is a discreet under the radar sort of car, so your 'for the money' wanting it to look different is as about as relieved as your first statement..

I suspect this makes it very easy for Audi to move clients through the range when it's time for a new one. If you have an A4, an A6 feels familiar yet a step up, and then again with the A8?Please stop and read that. I have a current (previous) shape D4 S8 that I’ve run for 2 years and 50k miles. The warranty expires in June and I absolutely won’t keep it beyond that - routine maintenance is ruinous but anything at all actually going wrong will see the main dealer service manager ordering another coat of lacquer for his/her yacht and they’ll still have change. I absolutely refuse to add up what it’s cost me in depreciation, fuel, servicing, tyres, brakes...
I just don’t know who will buy it though - anyone who has done their homework will know all of the above so who spends say £25k on a car with the potential to cost that much again if the engine goes pop?
That said, I’m struggling to know what to replace it with. It’s an epic car - massively comfortable, quiet, refined, hysterically fast and suitably understated. I’ll probably end up with the new one :-).

Only on Pistonheads would you have people moaning about the weight of an S8. Can't help but laugh!
That and the frothing “bandwagon” audi hate faux outrage....it’s pathetic. And the gormless durge about its “boring” understated looks, hint...it’s supposed to be! You want the flash tt drug dealer loadsamoney look, Merc, BMW and Range Rover have you well covered there. Tidybeard said:

Same, I've a previous gen S8, amazing car. Comically fast, so comfortable, high quality interior, superb ride quality, loads of toys. Very under rated car. I've had a lot of nice cars and this is my favourite as a package despite being, by a long shot, the cheapest in terms of current value.I just don’t know who will buy it though - anyone who has done their homework will know all of the above so who spends say £25k on a car with the potential to cost that much again if the engine goes pop?

I just think it's one of the most moronic things to say "just looks like an A4"
It's almost like people who say your son looks like you.
I’m not the target market, but I dont like this:
1) It does just look like a big A4, the original A/S8 was very much more distinctive than the smaller models.
2) That hard bit on the dash looks as naff on this as it does on the new A7. If that was on a lesser brand you would moan about it.
3) Well its got to be a bit pish isnt it? When the original one was out they weren’t trying to flog you a Bentley, this and its predecessor just arent as aspirational as the Mk1 as result, its an A6 limousine.
I like the seats though, no doubt theyre a few quid extra.

Blah blah blah....Audi’s now all look the same, just blown up on the xerox, no originality, not like they used to be.....blah blah blah.
Such bilge
Can you spot the differences?????
Great point and really proves the moronic statements being made about this new S8 looking like an A4 - this has ALWAYS been Audi's M.O.Such bilge

I was born in 1980 and lived to see car design change significantly over the last 35 years. I have also read about and seen alot of classic cars and have come to appreciate good car design.
I can categorically say that some of the comments made here "that it looks just like an A4" are valid, and in my opinion, this car looks pretty bland if I am being kind, and "utterly sh*t" if I am not.
Finally, my view is just as valid here as everyone else's. If you can't cope with that and feel you have to attack those that do not meet your tastes, or opinions then that makes you sad little trolls.
Capisce?
