No idea how many PHers take an interest in the US Cannonball record attempts, of have watched and read the videos and books which surround this underground motorsport, however this video was posted by whats now the previous record holder, yesterday.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AcyOIElISlQ

Anyone else watched this, and know anything more about the potential new record holder(s)?

Who are they?
What were they driving?
What was their time??

Friends of Ed Bolian.
With way more money.
Beat his time but not by much.

Always astonished me how they can average 100mph over 2800 miles, with peak speeds of 160mph and avoid police interception.
Incredible.

I read Alex Roy's book years ago and found the levels of commitment quite fascinating.

Checking weather reports months in advance, studying traffic patterns to know which days in the year have the least amount of traffic , incl back up routes, spotter planes, night vision cameras, Police radios, several GPS and radar camera detectors etc etc

I assume there was some hyperbole thrown in too.

Interesting! Interested to know the time.

A goal in life is to do a cannonball, equalling Brock Yates time would be enough for me!

Couple of weeks ago I drove from Seattle to LA and back. I was surprised with the amount of police on the main roads in Washington and Portland, probably came across one every 30 minutes or so. Although there were hardly any in California so maybe each state is different but I'm amazed they could do that without being stopped.

I watched 32 hours 7 minutes recently, just superb. This would certainly make the usual Brake posters in plod & the law's heads explode, averaging >100mph for this duration is just unbelievable and the preparation that goes into these attempts is so impressive. In comparison, last night I was reading a thread in the same legal forum about some millennial snowflake pussy stressing about doing 77 mph on the M25 and worrying about cameras. I mean Jesus fking Christ just install a Valentine One or something what is wrong with them!

Agreed.

I finished reading Ed's book on a flight recently, having really only become aware of him and his passion for the Cannonball through his VinWiki YouTube postings.

Whilst I'm not shy of making good pace on journeys, and love a big road trip, I find the dedication and preparation for this type of venture absolutely mind-blowing.

The appreciation of risk, and mitigation and management of that risk is what sets Bolian way above the Alex Roy type of approach to the challenge.

Totally agree, he’s miffed that’s his (utterly insane) time has been beaten but won’t tell anyone by how much. The only info was that it’s an AMG Mercedes with a lot more power than a CL55, so any large newer AMG.

Radar detectors don't work in the UK, we use a different type of tech to the Americans. You can get GPS type ones but it very much relies on the databases being up to date.

I was always under the impression that radar detectors were illegal in the UK anyway...

Intrigued to see the final time, and whether it’s a significant improvement over Ed Bolian’s. Even with a bigger budget and more powerful car there can’t be much more room for improvement without a big change in conditions- the speeds they do just to get under 30 hours are already pretty risky from a legal and a safety standpoint...

The two lovelies in the Lambo.

Roger Moore playing Roger Moore not playing James Bond, oh no definitely not, someone completely different.

Farah Fawcetts nipples which you could probably see from space

Best titles ever, the opening 5 seconds is enough to get the hairs standing up, I had that as a ring tones for years.
Don't care it was speeded up lol, loved it as a kid, and started my love of Lambos

I’ve also recently watched 32 hours 7 minutes.

The thing that struck me was the level of concentration required for the navigator/co-driver checking for cops etc., definitely not a passenger ride.

Probably are, but they would be useless. UK use laser. I think in both cases, detection is legal, but jamming or interfering with the signal is illegal (obstruction).

Yawn, fecking defeatists, ways and means my friends.

Anybody broken this yet...? https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&...

I suppose you've got to wait six months before announcing anything to avoid the window for prosecution...

The big trick is having the whole route covered in spotters continuously keeping you updated as to the position of traffic, construction and the filth.
