My 2016 440i Gran Coupe usually stays at home when I go to the town to do some banking or just have to run around to get stuff locally, I take my Hilux instead.

Despite the Hilux being a pig to park I stress about car park dings and more than that scuffing the alloys on the 440i strikes fear into me.

It's nice to have a choice, that's for sure.

They used to go so cheap secondhand - friend bought one as a cheap fast runaround and it was a quick little car smile

Aye...appreciate the OPs train of thought..I (we) bought a brand new Prius because it does everything and ticks lots of boxes for our needs.

But I will take the elderly MX-5 given any excuse... smile

My current daily is a transit connect sport I bloody love it ! Gets used at weekends along side wife’s 335i upgrade for baby duty’s so the mini went .

However Sat in the nice warm garage are completely immaculate : e60 m5 / e63 m6 /e30 m3/ e46 m3 / s54 custom e46 compact / mr2 turbo fully forged respray this year . And a Westfield which was used this morning. The sad thing is I’ve not done more than 200 miles in each with house move etc . An when weathers crap it’s nice to leave them out the wet !

W204 AMG C63 Wagon (modified) in the garage and a Fiesta 1.6 Auto titanium for short trips. 13,000 in 5 years in the Fiesta, C63 I doubt does 2,500 miles a year.

R8 Plus was in the garage but found myself always driving my 82 Merc 280 estate.

Was only doing about 50 miles a month in the R8 so sold it.
That's a very real (hypothetical) fear for me laugh

That I win millions of pounds, buy an appreciating value hypercar or 2, but rarely find the time to drive them* and spend my driving time in a £10k comfy, dirty, car park dinged runabout laugh

I had this years ago with 1 good car, but spent 99% of my driving time in a rusty old hatchback. The good car was SORN'd more than Taxed the last years I owned it.

* Theres only so many PH Sunday Services in a year wink

....... was lovely getting back into the big lazy barge when I got it back biggrin
How old are you by the way? Reason I ask is that I distinctly changed my daily preference as I went into my 30s haha. I spent my 20s driving hot hatches daily and then got to about 32 and suddenly wanted luxury and waftiness! Easy tireless driving.
Just at the low end of my 40s.

I've always had reasonably long commutes, and used to try to have a "swiss army knife" that did everything, which was once reason I first got into M3s (E36 and then E46) as daily drivers. They have a great balance of comfort, acceptable economy, and fun/performance.

The opportunity to have a dedicated commuter, which prioritises comfort and versatility is a great way to go. Driving quickly, seeking fun or thrills, and tolerating the disintegrating road surfaces, doesn't sit well with easy and licence friendly daily duties. Big comfy SUV / Estate / Saloon barge is the way to go for daily stuff, with a fun toy or two for the weekend. It makes it easy to get into a stress reduced routine of just cruising about at the speed limit, whilst also not getting too precious about filth, chips, and cosmetic wear and tear in all weathers.

I'll not deliberately go back to commuting with a P&J if its avoidable, at any time in the future ..... likewise, won't be sinking several hundred a month into "transport" through depreciation and avoidably high running costs.

My wife and I have a Mustang GT, AMG C63 and Fiat Panda 4x4. 9/10 times, we reach for the Panda’s keys; especially when going into town.
I also had a 4x4 Panda TwinAir as my winter car, I ended up selling my MK2 RS Focus when the following summer I was still using the Panda! Cracking cars, may have to get another one some day.

Aston Martin stays in the garage while I ride my bicycle everywhere. But that's mainly because cycling to work takes 30 minutes, makes me thinner and costs nothing, whereas driving to work, even if possible would take hours, incur a daily congestion charge, massive parking charges and about 4mpg.

I'm constantly drawn into this zone. M3 and 911 get less combined use than the 55 plate A4 diesel estate I bought "to leave at the airport".

Prior to this I ran a RR Vogue and a 106 Rallye. The 106 got used most days.

When I had my GT3 I also had a Berlingo and a Puma... they did most of the miles.

Same when I got my 320R STi... I did loads of miles in a 1.6 diesel Scenic and a MR2 Roadster.

Elise, Caterham and much modded E36 don't do as many miles as they should.

Use the Forester STI for family stuff though I don't like getting it covered in salt so have been using the wife's Nissan Note Auto for some family trips...

Thinking of spending £500 max on a station stter to use over winter so I don't ruin the others driving 5 minutes each way...Will sell in the Spring.

Until we moved countries my daily user was a 2006 Renault Kangoo but also had a Jaguar XF Portfolio S which mainly sat in the barn unused as my go to car was always the Kangoo. Sadly had to sell the Kangoo with 150,000 on the clock and the Jag had just 48,000 which surprisingly I was glad to be rid of, both were bought new.
