RE: Ford Mustang Mach-E officially unveiled
Discussion
As an electric SUV starting at 40k it's a very interesting proposition. Considerably cheaper than an i-Pace or Model Y.
Do I care what it's called? Not in the slightest.
I am seriously considering one to go alongside my weekend car.
And as for Mustang owners being up in arms?
Well - my weekend car is a 2018 Mustang GT Convertible. So I can assure you that I know for absolute fact, that not ALL Mustang owners have an issue with the name.

Don't really think there was any real need to use the Mustang branding. Its all a bit of a cynical marketing exercise and reading all the internet comments, seems to have backfired spectacularly.
They could have left all the styling cues and just called it the Ford Mach-E. Brand association without all the derision.... Job done

Ignoring the name for a moment, is there an actual technical reason why the thing seems to have the same dumpy proportions as the iPace?
I know it's an SUV that needs to stuff 6 tons of batteries somewhere but they seem to have the same dumpy awkward stace towards the rear when seen from the side...

Well, I like it.
As for the sacred Mustang brand, well there have been a LOT more bad Mustangs than good and it's not like Ford give a single st about brand legacy either - I mean they took the name of an Engine and turned it into a trim level just because some customers liked the name, it made zero sense, but they just don't care about stuff like that.

I’d probably wait and see how these sell over the next few years before claiming it has backfired spectacularly. They could have left all the styling cues and just called it the Ford Mach-E. Brand association without all the derision.... Job done
Well, I like it. As a comfortable electric commuter, I don't see an issue. One of those for the daily and a GT4 for the weekends - sounds about right IMHO!
Didn't see anything about UK or price tho - unless that's because I gave up on the article after the 3rd negatively-toned paragraph...

I think calling it Mustang was a good idea. Yes, the users of this site will have tears running down their anoraks that it doesn't have a V8, but to the normal people who will buy this thing, Mustang = cool.
For the record, I think it looks great and is sure to be an excellent car. It seems to have addressed some of the weirder and less conventional things from Tesla, but still does a wonderful job of being filled with tech.

i like that a lot, shame its slow I suppose you're going to be clutching at straws with this one though. There's not much you can rubbish on this without inadvertently also rubbishing stuff Tesla make....
For an SUV, and that is an important caveat, I think it looks good. The interior looks fairly minimal and I've never liked those floating table style screens, but at the right price it looks a reasonable SUV option as a family wagon.
I don't really like the Mustang association, that dilutes the brand for me, but they've obviously done it for sales/marketing reasons.

I seems strange to me that you are not allowed to use a mobile phone whilst driving but you are allowed to operate what is basically a touch screen TV. I had a go in a Tesla the other day and whilst it was very good fun I found myself having to take my eyes off the road to just adjust the temperature as everything is controlled by the screen.
