Once, When I was 21, thought I was gods gift in a car and a cyclist gave me an earful through my open window about how much of a yob I was being speeding around a cul-de-sac entrance. It was completely justifiable by the man.

I got out thinking because I boxed I was the hardest thing on the planet, quickly realised this mammoth of a man on the push bike was easily 4” taller and about 5 stone heavier and quickly understood how tragic what I’d done was.

It sounds silly but, I’d wish he’d of given me a pasting, because it took me about 6/7 years to grow out of that road rage mentality, if he’d of popped by nose I’d imagine that would of done me a world of good.

Actually its probably the best mantra, given the small penised, chip on shoulder people about, just itching to take their failure at life out on you.

Anyone who gets out of their car in anger needs to have a look at themselves...its driving, people make mistakes as will you take it and leave it. I'm guilty of flashing and gesticulating in younger days now i just shake my head such is the level of driving on the roads, there's no point and its simply not worth sweating.

You can’t tell who you are dealing with so why take the risk?

1) You look like a nob & are just as bad as the other person.

2) I know a guy in his 60’s who 5’8” and thin as a rake but used to box in the Navy. I reckon he could have most young lads in a fist fight.
I’m 6’2” and soft as they come.

The Kenneth Noye comments above are spot on.

Also, you don’t know what someone else is dealing with.

They make a stupid lane change, or you do, and all of their pent up rage boils over.

Feel good about pasting them now?

I know we shouldn’t drive tired / angry / upset but we do, we all do.

FFS if the events in the news tell us anything at all it’s that hanging back, asking why, giving space (literally & metaphorically) does us all a favor.

Someone comes at me with road rage?
I’m reversing away & getting on with my life.

One December morning, driving to work in nsl B road, a Range Rover pulled out of a side road. Was going pretty slow.
I did a text book overtake.
He took umbridge at that, floored it & was following about a foot behind me for a couple of miles.

Then there was a police spot check, looking for drink drivers, never seen there before or since!

Had a quick word with me. I mentioned that the idiot behind me had been right up my chuff for a few miles.

Copper said ok sir, we’ll have a word!

I gave him a wave & continued on my way..

Lol. Nothing like a statistically flawed / made up fact, to reinforce a personal opinion.

I’d generally assume they’re not, but sometimes I do wonder if the next person they try it with is. Carma in effect! (sic)

Since seeing a young prat in a 1-Series cut into a forecourt queue, and receive the tender attentions of a couple of scaffolders (not a beating, but it was certainly physical and very one-sided!) for his trouble, it's not something I've done or would rush to do. How these situations start is, to a very large extent, up to you, how they end is a coin toss.

The closest I've come was on a bike; white RRS (stereotypes exist for a reason) passed very close, didn't take kindly to my "move out" gesture and a bald, 60-something simian hopped out and tik-tokked back up the road towards me. Once off the bike, and seemingly 50% more man than the 5'8" race snake he was expecting, his fuming ire was still palpable even if his enthusiast for the situation had nosedived.

The happy ending came a couple of blind corners later; after he thundered away, I caught up with him 5 minutes later - this time in the company of plod! "Must not smile & eyeball..."

Got held up at 20 mph for about a mile in a forty. Something fishy, and yes I was annoyed, so were the line of traffic behind me. Pulled up level with the car and got out. Two elderly people, the wife terrified as her husband appeared to have had a stroke (she didn't realise, I did). I reassured her and called an ambulance.

I have to be honest, there's some shockingly cowed people posting on here.

I’m reading more shockingly violent people with anger management issues posting on here than “cowed” ones. Why would any rational person seek a confrontation with someone because of their driving? An argument will change nothing, and violence is completely unacceptable.

That's a slightly different scenario though, isn't it Popeye? This thread is about road rage. I've gotten out of my car a few times and each time has ended in a fight, once with a guy with a hammer and his friend had a blade, for posturing not using thankfully...guy with the hammer was keen thoughsmile ...and I've narrowly avoided arrest and a cell...Well, I did end up in a cell overnight for one of them. T-shirt bought and now not needed or wished for. Life is too short and precious.

Never got out of the car - not worth it as talked about before, you don't know what's going on in other peoples heads.

Had a road rager jump out and kick my door in the 90's. Sadly for him is foot went through the rust in my Fiat Uno door smile

Also had a really weird one at the local tip when a pick up went round all the queuing vehicles and, what I can only describe as He-Man on Steriods, jumped out challenging anyone to confront him and then went on to lift a washer/drier off the back of his pick up and literally see how far he could throw it into the tip. Locked my doors at that point.

Seeing this thread reminded me of the time when I was driving to work with the Mrs, and I was driving down a road down by the river going towards the Newcastle Quayside. A lot of people use this road to park their cars and walk the rest of the way in, as it was free.

Anyway I was driving down there keeping my eyes peeled for a space and there was an idiot in a van behind me driving right up my arse. I could practically see his cheap Elizabeth Duke fake sovereign ring on his finger he was so close.

Anyway I spotted a space, put my indicator on and slowed down while I allowed oncoming traffic to pass so I could get into the space. Clearly this guy was not amused, and as it cleared he went past with a blast of the horn, nearly taking my wing mirror off in the process.

I'm not even kidding, all I did after was put my hands up as if to say "WTF mate!" and the van screeched to a halt right in the middle of the road, blocking all traffic and he got out and started shouting he was going to murder me and my Mrs and whatever other incoherent crap. He was walking towards the car and looked proper unhinged so I started to reverse slowly, he kept coming, and I was running out of road to reverse as I had cars behind me.

I said to the Mrs if he keeps coming he's getting run over. Just as I said that he gave up, got back in the van and screeched off in a cloud of wheelspin. I still don't know what their problem was, but a colleague of the Mrs' said they heard the shouting from the other side of the river Tyne FFS rofl anyway I ended up parking elsewhere in case the tt came back and damaged my car later.

A slightly more amusing one was when I was a fair bit younger, I was tooling around in a Micra and was making my way home, again in Newcastle, and being rush hour it was obviously very busy.

I was in the correct lane to go straight ahead when this tt in a 306 D Turbo came racing up alongside me. It was quite obvious he was going to jump the queue so I pulled off quickly as I could (given it was a Micra), but it was still enough to prevent him from jumping the queue.

Clearly he was not amused, and that's putting it mildly. He was absolutely furious and ranting away behind me. Me being young and stupid, I put my mouth up to my mirror so he could see it and laughed heartily while sticking my Vs up.

This prompted him to get out of his car, well, this was awkward, as I was stuck in traffic... Luckily for me the traffic cleared.. The stupid bd left his car with the door open and ran after me while I drove away, which was even more hilarious laugh better still when other people started blasting their horn at him because he left his car in the middle of the road.

I have loads more stories of me antagonising people like this so I'm quite surprised I still have my kneecaps intact hehe I'm far too old and risk averse to bother doing anything like this now though for sure. Now I just let it go.

Edit, I've just thought of one more. On one occasion I was in the work van, 3rd car in queue at a set of lights. The guy at the front of the queue seemed oblivious to the lights turning green and just sat there, and we missed the lights. Dunno what he was doing, fking about on his phone probably. Anyway, turned green again, still sitting there, so I quick blast of my horn just to say wake up FFS. Anyway the tt got out of his car and proceeded to have a proper go at the bloke in the car in front of me who hadn't done a damn thing. I did feel a bit bad about that one and if the bloke had done any more than verbals I think I'd have felt obliged to get out and try and calm things down. There are some very unhinged folks out there.

It is. But it was road rage initially and I did get out of the car.

I also got out once to remonstrate with a driver (at temporary lights lol) who gave me the finger when I overtook. The husband, also in his seventies, ran round the front of the car and took a swing at me.

I’m reading a lot of stories, but only a few of which sound remotely true.

Not sure if it counts, but I was on my push bike as a teenager, and stopped at some lights. Lights changed to green, I set off, as did the vehicle just behind, who came round and attempted to come across me.

I kicked a hefty dent into their front wing and kept cycling.
