Best high performance car insurance - Young Driver
Discussion
In the process of purchasing a 2012 C63 Coupe.
I am 23 years old, live in a good postcode.
I cannot seem to obtain a realistic car insurance quote, does anyone have any recommendations? I have tried all price comparison sites, direct line, elephant, admiral, etc etc... Best quote so far is over £3000.
Thanks in advance.
-Realistic is £2000-£3000-

If having tried all of the insurers...over 3k is what you are getting... then that's realistic. It's you budget which is unrealistic.
However being more helpful I would suggest the online mainstream insurers are not going to give you best deal for your situation. It is frankly a specialist market. Hopefully somebody can come along & help you out. I'm too old & crusty so can't aid you. Suffice to say age is your best friend in the car insurance world.

Absolutely this. Does the OP work in my office? We have a guy that is late 4 days out of 5, every week, because the "traffic was bad". He hasn't realised that in fact on 4 days out of 5 the traffic is normal, but on the day he makes it in on time, the traffic was light.
Perhaps not too helpful - but does it have to be a C63? I ask because I had a V8 Vantage at 23 and that was only £650 for the year fully comp with Admiral (good postcode, 5 years NCB at the time). I got my F type at 24 and that was about £1k, so it's do-able with the right car. Maybe C63's get crashed by young people or stolen more?
Give Pace Ward a try, they're a broker who I've used for the past couple of years and have been great for me. You may be too young but worth a go, I'm now 26 still with the F Type and a brand new (allegedly 'uninsurable') RRS daily and paying <£1500 with them.

Doesn’t sound like the right choice of car if you can’t afford the high cost of car insurance?
High value, high performance car + young driver is never going to be a cheap quote.
Sounds like you need to buy something less powerful until you can afford the insurance on a car like that. Sorry but that’s the truth.

Going against the majority here, but that does seem quite high... I got quoted for a 2011 coupe when I was 23 with 3 years NCB (last year) and it was actually one of the cheapest out of my potential cars at the time at £1.2k...
Make sure you're putting the car on the drive or road, as it is drastically cheaper than garage - Not only that, do the same for where it's parked during the day (e.g open public car park is cheaper than secure etc). Obviously be realistic, don't outright lie. Try adding yours and any named drivers (add parents if you haven't already) drivers licence numbers, this dropped my quote 20% alone.
Also, check this useful tool from Martin Lewis and Co: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/insurance/car-in... - If your exact job title doesn't exist on insurance providers' websites then use this to pick the most accurate/cheap one.

Make sure you put your voluntary excess to the max they'll let you, I've had to do this with my last couple of policies (Modified Mini Cooper S and M140i) to make the quotes more realistic, just make sure you have enough cash set aside to cover it should the worst happen.
I've been with Admiral/Elephant/Diamond group since I passed my test as they've always been the cheapest. I have noticed that they wont quote me through comparison sites - so contacting each of them directly for a quote is a better idea. They'll also compete with eachother if you pressure them to work with you on the price.
I've currently got both my home and car insurance with admiral as they provide a discount across both policies and link them together into a 'MultiPolicy' quote - worth looking at.

At 23 with 6 years NCB in a good postcode area, I insured a 2010 987.2 Boxster S for about £950 (this was in April 2016). I had also got quotes on a C63 which I'd also considered and they were around £1,100. I didn't really have to put any effort in to get quotes around those figures so I can only imagine that if all your quotes are that high then that is going to be the going rate these days. If you can afford to, put your voluntary excess as high as you can as that helps tremendously. I'm 27 now and I insure a 5.0 V8 for £450 per year with £1,200 excess with 9 years NCB.
Try similar cars and see if the quotes vary, like an RS4 or M3 of the same age and see how those quotes compare. If they're of a similar premium then it looks like you're a little stuck!

Might be the car then, do you have a second car, multi-car may be a better bet?
I bought my Monaro at 24 and a few months, you'd imagine largely similar, it was 5 years old at the time, 6 litre engine / similar power, reasonable post code (HP19, so not Manchester at least), previous car was a 1.2 Clio so zero experience etc.
Multi-car at the time with Admiral with the Clio and the Monaro was just over £1,000, which was coincidentally what I paid for the first year with just the Clio
I don't know what other factors may be affecting it, this was as a homeowner, nobody else named driver, insured for ~8,000 miles a year on the Monaro, parked in a car park.
Good luck anyway, nice choice

Before 25 I couldn't get any decent cover from the mainstream insurers on powerful cars and had to use brokers.

Have you checked the postcodes rating? I was surprised that many seemingly good areas have really bad scores on the database, perhaps its due to criminals coming from afar to steal the cars.http://www.carinsuranceexplained.com/car-insurance...
Thanks for the advice.
Will be my daily driver, not for commuting. I do not have any NCB since I sold my car 3 years ago and have been named driver since. This is stinging me.. No points/convictions/claims etc
Strange as I had an Audi S3 at 18 years old, first car for only £1900 fully comp, no black box!
Post code = B rating
I tried adrian flux and they quoted over £3750.
If anyone has any more specialist brokers who they recommend. I am fully aware of the maintenance costs of a 6.3 litre Mercedes, just trying to reduce them a little with insurance..

Cracking car choices! The C63 wont disappoint Try Hiscox as mentioned, A-Plan worth a punt and maybe pick a broker in your local town, that will give you a decent spread on prices.
Can't work out if you've already purchased, if not - see if there is a price variable between Saloon, Coupe and Estate. I'm paying buttons for my estate - but I'm also an old git...
