That run of Pikes peak by Vatanen was made of multiple replays as well and not during the race day. Still, nothing better than Ari over that mountain!

For me what grates in the drift world is just yanking on the handbrake to break rear wheel traction and generate a slide to power out of. Conversely I love watching rally drivers use the Scandinavian flick to set the car up and power through a bend in a nice drift. All seems so much elegant and skillful, and I admire that much more. This vid and driving style, skillful though it is in isolation, soon gets stale for me.

There's a certain sort of irony in all this.

Like some others here, I'm growing a bit weary of the repetition from film to film... yet, one day, the very sort of maneuver that always seemed so consistent could go just that bit too far -- with disastrous and final consequence.

People who work with behaviours and minds probably recognise a certain type of misleading thought where one becomes inured to a visual depiction of something truly dangerous.

Quite predictable in places, no surprise there. Which makes it less excitable to watch.

I’ve loved the beautiful scenery just as much as that truck.

Not sure it’s fair to criticise the driver? He’s doing his thing. And I’m not on his level...

The Gymkhana Files on Amazon Prime is worth a watch; a behind the scenes look at the filming of the last Gymkhana video (along with some footage of the Climbkhana 1 at Pikes Peak, in particular 'Evo corner'). It's a little bit like learning all a magician's secrets, when you learn that it does take multiple takes in places (Scotto the director doesn't like it, but they don't always have the time to clean up the tyre marks).

I'd agree it's become somewhat samey in recent times, which is a shame, because the Hoonitruck is a cracking bit of kit, and the shear size of it caught Ken out numerous times on the last Gymkhana.

yup - I was going to mention the Amazon series too. Maybe it's not 'white knuckle' enough for some, and I do buy the whole familiarity breeds contempt thing but it's properly interesting seeing them put everything together.

I think I'm about ready to hand in my PH card - I must be getting really boring as I age unfortunately because I can't even be bothered to watch the video of another race car car sliding around from different angles. I think the staged nature of it bores me regardless of the skill level involved.

To all those bemoaning the multiple takes, why don't you film yourself doing it in one take?

If you can't afford it, let's do a PH Kickstarter and get it going

I wish i had 10% of Kens ability, the prime series behind the scenes is great, Ken comes across as a genuinely nice fella, no bighead stuff of any sort.
