I know it's popular to say that the Lexus offering is 'chintzy' but this is so much more stylish than the equivalent BMW M4 Cab or Mercedes AMG C-class.

It's just a shame that hardly anyone in the UK will buy one, making them a rare sight!
Exactly why i would buy one, no silly entry level engine, but I definitely wouldn’t compare it to 4 or C class.
Indeed. This is going to be double the price of the 4 and the C.

Around the 8-Series price, or more, I'd have thought.

Will be seen at every US golf or country club from 2020 onwards. I see loads of SC430's across Florida today and that car was never designed for UK roads nor had core drivers. A car for wafting not Nurburgring times nor country road blasts. This new convertible will sell very well in its desired markets.

The coupe has been favourite new car since it came out, at any price. And I'm not really a Jap car fan nor Lexus fan. This thing is even better looking than the LF in my books. There's a dark yellow one round here I see occasionally and I genuinely have to be careful not to cause an accident!

Great looking machine but driving that in the UK I fear you'd look a bit of a prat..it's much ore a Miami beach kinda car!
Yes much better to be totally invisible in a grey German business box rolleyes

I imagine your fear reflects that of many though. I wonder if it's actually true, will people see that and think 'what a prat'? Personally I've only seen a couple of LC500s ever, and I gave the driver a thumbs up (I presume not his desired response from males) because frankly good on him for choosing something interesting.

That presumably makes me a weirdo / anorak / terrible bore, but ho' hum, he'll either not even notice / give a st or if he does actually like his cars he'll perhaps feel a little pleased that somebody else likes it.

Been watching the coupe prices for a while, the depreciation is horrific, dropped £35k in 10000 miles and eighteen months. I think they look fantastic and the quality is peerless. Another 2 years and I should be able to afford one smile. look great value - a 2 year old one of these or an M2?

No question for me, and that’s as a serial BM owner. This is just fantastic. Want one.

" the occasional lack of urgency found in the coupe "

OFFS

There's no way that something with 240hp / tonne lacks urgency. It'll have enough pull to earn you three points in under five seconds.

why didn't Toyota make the new Supra on the LC500 platform frown

stunning
Because it's a massively fat bd (weight) - even the coupe.

Indeed, this is an 8 series / S Class cab competitor. Way way above 3 series and C-Class

Wasn’t the coupe pretty universally panned by PistonHeads and other journalists on the ride quality, dodgy gearbox, lack of turbo like low down shove, iffy ergonomics and a hugely frustrating infotainment system?

Their words not mine.

This and the coupe are beautiful cars. I’ve seen one on the road and was quite taken with it.

I've driven a few LC500's & enjoy driving them I've told people these are a modern day GranTurismo they ride well & the N/A engine is a peach (when the 4.0TT V8 comes online people will miss it, I like the interior there are some great detail touches (it's the rear lights for me) too.

I'm a coupe person but I have to say the convertible looks better.

It belongs to that subset of cars that, for me, instantly says Los Angeles. It's just the sort of thing that upper-middle-class people in the film industry drive.

On an unrelated note:

One may or may not like the outsized grille that has become a Lexus staple, but it's simply astonishing how this manufacturer has combined a sort of natty style with a most welcome reliability. Not just on these cars, but across the range.

I mean: If you could debadge these cars inside and out, it wouldn't be too difficult to convince "non car people" that these machines are the latest things from very exclusive Italian or British marques -- and priced accordingly.

I expect Lexus will sell shed loads of these in the USA, it's a big car but made to a very high standard and as Lexus still have that wonderful N/A V8 what's not to like. I have noticed the price of coupe version the LC 500 coming down quite a bit so a safe secondhand buy.

I've not been close to one but the interior door handles look like works of art.

I love it and I wish I could afford it.
It’s quite sad, but I think most UK buyers are badge snobbery, so they’ll rather go for a Germany badge, even if it means buying the cheapest trim level, smaller engine just so they can say they drive an German brand.

I expect most will go for the E (top spec) / S Class over this. frown
