I always find this thread so interesting to read, I have my channel which is pretty small right now, but its always so tempting to do them videos that are completely crazy and get them "views"... but then I think how can I do that and in some ways be putting the "hype" version of the car scene, which most of us car enthusiasts don't really enjoy watching. Its hard to fight the temptation so I still to my How To's and documenting my car builds and adventures.

I actually came across your channel a while ago. Watched the R33 rebuild vid and a couple of others. I’d say stick to what you’re doing, they’re enjoyable vids. The views and subs will come.

That's my younger brothers YouTube page and also my R33 smile.
A thread within the reader's car section will be put up once we have some more progress with the rebuild. Should pick up again late March.

haha, thank you! I know I still want to continue on improving, getting better at editing etc but glad some do enjoy it. I am lucky in the sense that I am surrounded by cars getting work done and the views and subs are growing at a steady pace. Its the temptation that is dangerous... but I will stick to my guns! Just had JayEmm subscribe so thats nice too biggrin

I just listened to the Behind the Glass (Seen Through Glass) podcast "How To Make Money From YouTube" as really interesting interview on car throttle, how it started and how it sold to dennis publishing.

These bloody requests are becoming more and more frequent.
'influencers' on here, does this st ever work?
I think you'd be surprised at how often it does work.... Having 126,000 followers of a specific niche certainly has a value. It all depends on the niche and the campaign objective obviously.

I've experienced through work that the 'smaller' influencers (like your 126k follower example) are getting more and more popular with businesses as they're much cheaper than the ones with large followings (1M+), so to answer your question, yes it works... within reason.

On a related theme, listening to Alex Goy (off of Carfections etc) on the Smoking Tire (sic) podcast yesterday they were talking about how motorcycle PR depts were desperate for any kind of coverage by non-motorcycle journos/influencers/etc as that was the only way to reach customers that weren't already motorcyclists.

The 'proper' motorcycle journos were only read/followed by existing motorcyclists (and I believe motorcyclists are more brand loyal than car owners).

They might be desperate but that's a pretty big ask.

JayEmm's got a bike license, but hasn't ever done a review that I've seen. Probably because it's a different audience, mostly those that want a motorbike are already interested, and those that don't won't want to watch.

If you're interested in bikes you watch a different channel, Spicy110, Beans On Toast, RoyalJordainian etc.

I guess though they're both petrol powered, there's less crossover than perhaps the PR people think/want?

All just unsubstantiated opinion on my part above.

Does anyone else watch some of the Adam C videos like me (mainly out of morbid curiosity)

But the one the other day with the R34 GTT revving over and over and over outside The Ace Cafe, to top it off the guy had a spark plug in the tailpipe and was doing flames which looked really bad as they weren’t natural shoot out flames (like a Merci or something) but they were kind of igniting like a giant lighter and licking upwards!

How the hell those meets at the cafe don’t get wiped out by the police I’ll never know! They look an absolute crap shoot.

I love Harry metcalf, Iain Tyrell, Peter someone (the Lambo/Volvo Guy) subi performance

I have refused the offer of a few bikes to review because my kit isn't geared for bike reviews, and frankly it has been a while since I have ridden so I would be able to say very little of value. I had planned to do a couple of looks at some interesting bikes, but it never materialised.

Interestingly though, I have heard of a couple of car companies who don't actually want "car reviews" they just want lifestyle stuff - what their reasoning is, I can only guess at.

I've often wondered the same, but I suppose in a way, having them all in one place is better than being spread out? There's plenty of speed humps there so they can't actually go that fast between them, it's just a load of revving and burnouts.

Feel sorry for anyone accidentally driving through there though, I'd avoid it like the plague..

Bloke I knew 20 years ago had a Sierra Sapphire Cosworth that did this - no spark plug required, just (I assume) an unbelievably rich tune.

It was mad fast for the day.

Anyway, cool story bro, etc.

Sad to see Johnny has left Fully charged, he was keeping the tiller on the Robert Lywellyn rant tube.
I havent watched the Fully Charged videos for a while as Robert is an actor with no engineering or technical backgroud who fits the EV owner image of the next gadget is the best gadget type of guy. The Fully charged stuff was really aimed at preaching to the EV crowd that they are doing gods work, personally if anything having a Golf E has made me seek more extreme cars to do long distances in or drive for coffee somewhere, the Q7 is going for a used Mulsanne and ye gods an F12 looks like money in the bank.

Johnny is a good bridge to the EV/petrolhead scene and the Teslarati on twitter have turned on him like he left Scientology. They are a nasty bunch, like Vegans of the automotive scene. Glad to see he is still doing the Smith & Sniff and his car pervert channel is up and running again.

This ladies and gentleman is the owner of classic parade. The the 'largest fleet of supercars to hire in the UK' that doesn't own a single car and loves taking peoples money.
He's an absolute cancer.
He seems to have some kind of mental issue.

Tim’s become a caricature of himself just lately IMHO. I can’t bare to watch it anymore. Smiling, pointing at cars and naming them. zzz

Do any of his customers actually end up getting what they booked, or is it just one massive fraud?

My only complaint is not going into more detail about each car. It’s not every day you come across the oldest remaining Ferrari badged car. 15 seconds and Tim’s onto the next car.

Shmug's been churning the same grinfest-Olly-Higuys-lookatme-myfrienddidthis-myfriendboughthat-ste for years. I swear his viewer demographic must be 11-13yr olds. The sooner his views and subs drop off the cliff like a bunch of lemmings, the better. Integrity, knowledge and credibility count for everything on YT and there are fewer channels that keep true petrolheads smiling nowadays.
