They all handle a bit differently depending on whether you’re on about the 3-door, 4-door or 4-dr 4wd

They had a 4wd version at the Autocar Handling Day back in 1990
Did a pretty good time for a 4wd in the dry hot on the heels of the E34 M5. 2wd version was a bit quicker on that circuit but the 4wd version was new that year so got the invite. Panther Solo had the same engine but was a lot slower

They have narrow tyres ( 205s ) by today’s standards so they’re not ultra-grippy but pretty adjustable
Which 944 were they driving in this test?
3 litre S2
And some say that's the best version whistle

Just wondering why you think this? Market for many 90s/00s cars seems to have started trending downwards of late from what I can tell
Aside from the occasional diamond in the rough, they've been hyped beyond common sense.

4 have sold all within last two months at stupid prices including a sapphire for over 50

All the media coverage on these will keep them going I think

And to be fair a cosworth is a bloody cool car

Why is it that almost every single saff cossie you clapped eyes on had/has rippled sills that look like they are about to crumble at any given moment?
The body kit is attached with plastic clips that snap easily. Mine looks like this too, you can get metal replacement ones (which I have but I’m yet to fit).

3 doors are where the money is.

£40k for a good one.

£100k is not unheard of for a mint RS500.

I don't watch 'Emerdale farm' its just a fleeting memory from all those years ago, certain I saw a white sapphire in an episode featuring as a getaway car.

That's quite a Ford fetish you have there - the 3 door Cosworth looks lovely.

Are you a dealer or collector ?

I still have good memories of my Saphire 4x4 Cosworth which had about 300 bhp for most of my time with it (3 years).

They go really well with some light upgrades and handle well with loads of grip considering it only had 15 inch wheels 205/50/15.

They don’t weigh much compared to modern stuff - around 1250 kg?

As per a previous poster I preferred my 4x4 saphire to the escort cosworth I had after, the escort was horrible inside and the Sierra seats were better, but the escort handled better and my one had 340 bhp so was a lot quicker than my Saphire:

My Sierra 4x4 was a great long distance car and was great all year round being proper 4wd but would still oversteer quite easily if you wanted to provoke it.

The 3 door was the one I always really wanted (my dad had one when I was a teenager) and when I finally got one (a very nice moonstone blue with 340 bhp) it was a wild ride compared to the 4x4 not as nice to drive but in the dry was ridiculously quick as long as you kept the revs up.

Worth noting that although they sold many 1,000’s more Saphires than 3 doors an awful lot of them got broken for spares once they reached the £3k mark.

The cheapest one I ever had was an H reg 4x4 Saphire cosworth that was a one owner from new a completely standard car on 120k with full history that needed some minor work doing which had been px for a new Impreza, got that for £1400 (even at the time that was stupidly cheap but with today’s prices seems crazy!).

Of the various Cosworth’s I had I think the one I’d like to go back in time and get was my 300 bhp 4x4 Saphire ( I px’d It for an Evo6 which at the time was a mind blowing upgrade!).

Rust is the problem with these now if I was getting another I’d look at Italy for a rust free example (they are still cheaper there although LHD).

Cheers.

Nice plate on the Focus ( although I think most people would realise it is, in actuality, quite orange smile - nothing like a bit of overkill biggrin ).
