Having driven an Atom and a few Caterhams I can only imagine how mad this thing is. These types of cars for me are the best driving experience you can have.

He did make a proper mess of it in that video, mind you.

It wasn't that bad - in fact it was really slick and fast when you'd got the hang of it, but there's a definite technique to mastering these old Hewlands. I'd had some experience with single-seaters before I bought the car. It was when you were trying to drive slowly, with fairly light throttle, on public roads that it took the most skill and attention to get a clean, crunch-free gearchange. Very satisfying when you got it right, though.
