A Volvo badged curiosity for the footnotes of motoring history.
I imagine there's going to be a lot of that to come out of the next 10 years. In 50 years or so people will be looking at the pages of history. Fondly smiling at this time of wild innovation and crazy concepts before an inevitable winning formula emerges as the next technology to take us forwards.

I'm seeing BMW front end from the second photo and some mustang influences. Not an unattractive car but I'd like to see it in the flesh.
Seems to weigh a lot despite all the carbon-fibre chat.

It seems that, in a lot of road cars, the use of carbon-fibre does not appear to lead to massive weight reductions when compared to aluminium / other composites. I wonder whether the carbon-fibre is to give it some credibility but at considerable cost. Presumably an alloy body would be significantly cheaper with not much of an increased mass? I mean the thing weighs 2400kg at the moment

There isn’t a Volvo model I don’t like right now!

Hope this might filter down into a c70 coupe sized car?

Remember that this thing started its life as the utterly gorgeous (to my eyes, anyway) Volvo Coupe Concept back in 2013?

I'm glad polestar made this, but I'd have been happier still if it had made it to market as a C70 with less fancy tech in it. That way I might have been able to actually buy one. This is - and with 1500 units made, will remain - well out of my price range.

Still, Imagine Volvo build quality, looks like that, that old 2.3 litre turbo 5... A man can dream.

I like the side profile, but the front and rear (especially the rear) has looks only a mother could like!

I think it looks fantastic, I really love the design.

The weight, price and performance all leaves a lot to be desired I think, but that's okay as I'm not in the market for it anyway.

IMO that looks absolutely unreal...

The grille is an ugly monstrosity planted on the front of an attractive body shape. The interior does not match the price tag. Power train sounds too complex.

Side profile recalls the P1800 that the Saint used to drive - similar small cab/long bonnet & boot look.

So much want, wonder how much these will depreciate in the first year?
isn't this supposed to be a subscription only model? So depreciation irrelevant - it's just a big posh lease is my understanding....

That a concept can come to fruition so true, is a wonderful thing.
The result to my eyes is wonderfully unique and handsome product.
A little bit of time on the colours and trim, and you'd have an absolute gem.

The big problems, literally, are the weight and the cost....a travesty, dressed up as progress.

What, in your eyes, would constitute “progress”?

You sort of get the feeling that they weren't actually sure in the first place what they were trying to do here and therefore aren't really sure what is the point of what they have made. It's effectively a 2 seat overweight GT hybrid that feels slightly underdeveloped ( manually adaptable dampers ? )

It looks good in the pictures, but, as everyone have said, the price, weight and performance seem to leave it in an automotive no-man's land. Hard to see them shifting those volumes

I actually really like that exterior - I am a sucker for a coupe, and I like the edgy design of that.

The interior though - that does look a real disappointment for £130k+
can't disagree with any of that

I like the looks. But £140,000. Not a chance. I was expecting it to be around Tesla Model S prices. Can't see those flying off the shelves.
Agree! And for £140K I would expect the combustion engine to be V6/V8 not a 2L 4 pot.
it's Bentley money, I'd expect a V8 and an awsome interior.... this is where EVs/Hybrids are nowhere near tp price parity with regular cars, and this just shows how yawning a gap there still is...

Well I think that you can forget about the V8 but there is no good reason why the interior is so low rent (well relatively so) I mean, I'm sure it's solid and conventional but no "wow" factor is there?

I'm viewing this like the original Tesla Roadster. Testing out some new power train ideas, using as existing platform from another manufacturer. Not really mass market, but that's not the point. I suspect the Polestar 2 will be another big leap forward in terms of progression.

I think it looks great. Clearly recognisable as a Volvo - from the high waist, proportions and grille of the P1800, but not too retro to be a pastiche, with plenty of current Volvo design cues too. Yes it is expensive but it is a cool limited halo model.
