He must be on a wind-up? Fair play, he consistently trolls us all, his standards don't slip.

Either that or it's a cry for help, I just hope I never meet him on the road and become part of one of his imaginary road races, nothing worse than losing a race you don't know you're in.....

I can only imagine how upset he'd be if someone beat him with a dog in the boot without knowing they were racing. biglaugh

So it would seem there is NO such thing as a sports car its either :
Hot Hatch
Roadster
Performance car
Track focused road car
Super car
Hyper car
Add another/ your car here ....?

On reflection maybe the term Sports car went out with 1950s MGs and Leather flying jackets

Only 2 pedals
Unessasry weight
Any item that does not contribute to making it either faster or more fun or more skill full to drive .....
A size that means it can’t squeeze 2 cars down a B road, ...shouldn’t have to slow for every in coming car.
Anything that disconnects the driver from what is going in under his tyres
Driver aids...so no traction, stability control....is would also add ABS except that Lotus do fit ABS and I can just about let that one go.
You have pretty well just described a Caterham type car to a T, there!

Must have- Engine between both axles, manual box, modest power, modest grip, minimalistic 2 seater top down fun.

Shouldn't have, engine slung over front or rear axel, 4wd, huge grip and aero, insane Nürburgring lap times.
And yet another description of a Caterham type car! smile

A sports car should really be a convertible, whether hard or soft it doesn't matter, should only have two seats and two doors. Cup holders are fine, as is traction control and Abs. It should have a manual gearbox, but an auto that can be used or overridden manually. It should be able to wear a luggage rack on it's boot lid, but by no means must. It cannot be FWD. Anything with a fixed roof and/or back seats is not a sports car.

An MGB is a sports car
An MX5 is a sports car
An MR2 Roadster is a sports car
An X/19 is a sports car
An SLK is a sports car

Any Spider/Spyder is a sports car (unless it's FWD)

A TVR Chimeara/Griffith is not a sports car but a Grand Tourer.
A DeTomaso Pantera is not a sports car
A Lancia Stratos is not a sports car
A blower Bentley is not a sports car
A Lancia Stratos is a sports car.

And according to you, because they are FWD, the an Elan M100, Lancia Fulvia HF and Mitsubishi FTO arn't sports cars then?

Why should it be a convertible? So a Renault Alpine A110 isn't a sports car? lol

I have a Subaru. It's slower than yours.
It's parked next to the "sports car" -

2 seats, 2 doors.
No auto gearbox
No power steering
No turbo
No ABS
Weighs under 1000kg
Mid engine
Limited Slip Diff
Pop-up headlights

But it does have aircon (I live in Aus) - does that disqualify it?
You failed before that on pop-up headlights. They need a lifting mechanism - unnecessary weight.

Of course not. He has symmetrical AWD.

Although the do allow a low bonnet line when down - less drag, less bulk.

Actually pop-up lights should be a pre-requisite as they are cool. Damn those pedestrian impact regulations...

Agreed. Pop up headlights automatically make the car super cool and mega sporty.

In the G33 when you have the pop up headlights up you get more rain and wind in your face as the changed airflow means it whips round the edge of the windscreen more. (Some muppet at Ginetta decided that it would make sense to cut off the top corners of the windscreen so you get wind in your eyes if you are 6ft.

A Stratos isn't a sports car. It's a rally car.

And you are quite correct none of the rest are sports cars.

It should be a convertible because any hard top is a roadster. There's a reason why the MGB is a sports car and the MGB GT isn't. wink

You got dropped by a 118d, it’s funny. The topic is ‘sports cars’.

You’ve never owned one. HTH

Ah, that reminds me. The essence of a sports car is good handling, not necessarily performance. This is why an MX5 is more of a sports car than an SLK55 AMG. Both are great cars that I love, but with a sports car, simplicity and lightness trumps grunt every time. A Caterham classic with 70bhp trumps both. etc.
