RE: Audi RS6 Avant | Driven

I wish they did a RS4-R with this engine and the slightly smaller shell of the A4. The 6 just strikes me as big enough to be a PITA, which was exactly the reason we ditched the Model X.
Agreed. Loved everything about my B9 RS4 other than the "nasty" V6 they installed.TX.

Gawd, what a munter.
massive 22in wheels - very aggressive thrusting looks - no mistaking it for a modest 2 litre diesel, no point de-badging it.
it will have to drive a lot better than the C7 generation, which to me felt very heavy and lethargic until you booted the throttle.
i'll stick with my E63s - on 20's, in silver, de-badged, looks like a E220d - that's the whole point of a Q car - ''speak softly, but carry a big stick'' - that's a car with a proper sense of the absurd, is huge fun to drive when you are in the mood, meek when you are not, and attracts no attention whatsoever. that's what appeals to me and why I choose an performance estate.

I agree with you on the sleeper bit entirely, though it’s an even bigger car. Looks are subjective so with regard to the E class I will leave it there, but at this price point I have some attraction. massive 22in wheels - very aggressive thrusting looks - no mistaking it for a modest 2 litre diesel, no point de-badging it.

Missile with some of the craziest differential technology I have heard of, really think Audi are still at the top with 'road going' 4x4 systems. Absolutely mean look. Still not a fan of the A6 having no physical interface for controlling the MMI, seems only Audi are doing this, whilst BMW have still a controller and Mercedes seem to have 2 controllers.

Picture required to see proof of "Q car" status More seriously, doesn't the woofle when it starts up or gets above 1200rpm not attract attention?
I actually wonder if certain colours make a difference in terms of Q car ness. Silver probably the best, grey then blue then black then Red in terms of not attracting attention

I wonder how the ride is, in the U.K., on those wheels. I suspect I already know.
I had a ride in the last gen RS6 and I’m pretty sure I could feel the manufacturer’s name cast into the cats eyes we skipped over.
Quite like the way it looks though!
Really? In comfort mode it's a very nice ride. Guessing the one you went in was set in dynamic ride where by you can indeed feel every little bump and ripple. I had a ride in the last gen RS6 and I’m pretty sure I could feel the manufacturer’s name cast into the cats eyes we skipped over.

I'm struggling though to see the extra for me over my c7 performance. Power is the same, acceleration the same, space the same. It's got better tech but looks uglier. Not sure id deal tbh

When I start my S205 C63 up at 5:30am or such like and have to wait a minute or so before the temps are up and the gearbox is ready to go the noise is epically antisocial. One of the things I like about my C6 RS6 is that it is a bit of a sleeper, uninitiated spotters will not notice much of a difference from Tom's Taxis A6. This new one is just trying too hard and just looks too agressive. The power output is impressive though, my V10 only manages 572bhp

"My car is so noisy for a minute or so before it warms up a little bit, so I just sit there idling it at 5:30am for it to quieten down whilst everyone is trying to sleep instead of just driving off like everyone else would"

I assume he means that it takes about a minute of driving before it becomes a bit more quiet? Otherwise...could you imagine:

Yes try doing that with screen misted up"My car is so noisy for a minute or so before it warms up a little bit, so I just sit there idling it at 5:30am for it to quieten down whilst everyone is trying to sleep instead of just driving off like everyone else would"

I think the lighter colours such as silver and darker such as blue tend to fly under the radar - also black wheels are a no-no, unless it's a combination of brake dust and dirt.

Demist before starting it up? Just get a cloth. Easy
No thanks I don’t want smears on my screen - I’m very particular about certain things immaculately clean inside of the car nothing on the windows of any kind. I wouldn't dispute the E Class has Q car looks, if you look past the exhausts, but I wouldn't consider it a particularly good looking car.
For me, the C7 RS6 was the best car I've had. It just did everything, and despite being an estate car, I'd still look back and think "Yep, looks the business!". The M5 and E63 tick many of the same boxes, but they can't compete with the looks and the market has proven that.
The C8 now widens that gap. The E63 or M5 is a fine choice if you wish to go under the radar, whereas the Audi is distinctly its own thing. I personally think in the flesh it will have enormous road presence, and for those that can't justify getting a sports car to go alongside their practical daily, the car's appeal will be widened further.

agree, the E63s looks bland, but for me that's part of the appeal - I remember my first super-saloon back in 2002, an E39 M5, also quite a subtle looking car with an air of menace. to me the ultimate looker was the E28 M5, perfect proportions. but for a modern daily, to sit next to a sports car in the garage, be that a Caterham or GT3, whatever, the AMG's do it for me now, and I've had various Audi RS6's over the years.
if it was a sole car, maybe I'd want something more distinctive looking, but knowing me probably not. but I agree with you, the new RS6 is very distinctive and the market will support that.
