I always thought that. Then MrsMB140 got one earlier this year. Whilst I loved it on the test drive I couldn’t cope with it as a daily driver or long term choice. It’s just not refined enough. It’s too big for most uk car parks and has the turning circle of a bus. It draws too much attention for my liking. Each to their own which is why my misses loves it. It screams look at me. She’s had a borla s exhaust fitted to it and I reckon you can here it 1/4 mile away just on normal throttle. WOT (be careful) it sounds epic but that soon wears off. I refuse to drive it most of the time (unless the misses has had a few drinks and needs me to drive it home mainly).
That sounds perfect as far as I'm concerned and right up my street! smokin

Thanks for the reply. TBH, the M4 doesn't appeal at all, though always quite fancied a C63 but at £10k more than the IC-F, the Lexus seems like a much better bet. Also, the running cost of the Lexus and warranty are leagues ahead. So as an ownership proposition it makes a lot of sense. And from what I've read, it seems to be one of those cars that just gets under your skin. Can't wait to find my Infrared one...
These have also snuck onto my radar for a future purchase, and similarly the M4 does absolutely nothing for me.

Have you driven one yet? I’ve poked around a demo car and was very impressed with the interior, but didn’t get a chance to take it out for a drive.

Hang on.

Mrs MB140 quite likes the Mustang. She goes that extra bit with an aftermarket exhaust (let's be honest: How many owners, male or female, insist on that?). And she doesn't say No to a drink?

I see no problem here. wink In fact, a single chap on PH would probably do well to enquire if Mrs MB140 has an equally agreeable sister or cousin!

PS: more than a few cars sold in the UK are round about the size of Mustang; just sayin'

Unfortunately no on the sister front. She has always been the one more in to cars and drinking than me. She a dam fine Mrs (7 years younger than me) I know I am a lucky guy.

Her list of cars so far.

Astra VXR (slightly modded)

DS3 (really rare sport one)

Mini Cooper S (didn’t like that only lasted 3 months, too girly apparently)

Nissan 350z HR version quite well modded chassis and engine wise.

Nissan 370Z convertible well modified with coil overs, spacers, Arkgrip exhaust, full TarmcSports body kit, engine work and mapping by seven valley motorsport (owner even tried to buy it for his wife, MrsMB140 said no), GTR bonnet vets. Only sold it because she stopped running North Sea oil rigs and took a pay cut to go in to the power industry(Turned out to be a smart move).

125d, bit of a need a car let’s get something for increased mileage. Only stayed a year.

BMW 430i, that stayed stock was a nice car but she never relally liked it.

Ford Mustang GT, so far Eibach spacers, borla s exhaust. Some minor light and badge cosmetics planned parts bought just not done yet. He says that’s it modding eise, I just laugh and shake my head. I know there’s more to come.

Yep there'll be a supercharger coming soon smile my OH is of a similar vein although since she got the D3 mods have come in the form of new alloys only which makes a change as that's normally just the start! Oh I did forget the speaker upgrade.

When you do get to test drive the RCF after it has warmed up there is a round dial on the central console turn it so the display indicates Sport mode, then put the gear shift lever over to manual just flick it towards you, if it has TVD another button on the centre press it to any of the settings. In this mode you will get an idea of it's Mr Hyde mode you can now use the paddles which is what most people use it in, if you haven't scared the salesman you'll get an idea of how this engine loves to be revved. Then as a complete contrast slip it into auto and enjoy the smooth sophisticated ride the RCF can do.
If your budget allows for a later car with AVS then do the same except you will find in normal mode the ride is something that not many cars can equal. The cars up to 2017-18 had 471 BHP the later cars because of saving the planet have slightly less.

That's a nice video. I'm glad that, in spite of title, there was no winner picking- the price difference is huge.

Also, there are so many aftermarket mods for a Mustang. You can make it whatever you want- straight line speed, or more sports car like.Or just upgrade the interior.

And it would still be cheaper than the Lexus.

Two great cars. We are lucky there a few cars like this still around- a last hurrah for interesting ICEs

Good film - well balanced and filmed. I could see the Mustang likes to move around a bit.

I considered a Mustang previously but it was a bit out of budget so went for an older E9x M3. I know what you mean BIRMA, when you say it feels like it needs to be driven fast. I found myself taking unwise liberties just to enjoy the engine.

Currently in a manual Boxster S which I love, but with two children and one other family car it is sometimes inconvenient not having back seats so I maybe looking for a 2+2 next year. Must be time to at least arrange a couple of test drives in this pair sometime in the new year.

I really like the look of the Lexus interior and second hand the RCF does seem like a bargain. I miss having a V8.

Mustang has it on sound. I'm always going to side with the better driving experience overall but I can't get past the Lexus's looks here.

I think in this market I'd be looking at Bullet Mustang vs C63 AMG... maybe XFR if the warranty was good.

This shouldn’t be the comparison. If I were to consider the price points, then the Mustang I’d consider would be a GT350 or GT500. Is there even a contest?

Borla S fitted to MrsMB140 Mustang. It’s insanely loud on cold startup.

Oh and right now she is on the beer already (well 3rd actually). Although we are sat on Lamai Beach. Nice place. Highly recommend it.

I agree with BIRMA, I am in the happy position of having selected between these 2 cars, 1 a nearly new ford (2 months old) and a 2 year old RCF (6000 Km on the clock) cost of change from previous car meant the Lexus cost me circa 2K gbp more. ( I am in Europe). My conclusion I purchased the Lexus - not an easy choice. However in 11 months I have driven 40000 Kms, including through some very deep winter conditions and I thoroughly enjoy the Jeckle and Hide of my 2016 RCF. 90% of the time cruise and subtle returning 8.8 litres per 100km, 10% of the time , dial the knob right and the exhaust cackles and po-faced teutonic machinery drivers get to review the tailpipes.

Normally I wouldn't bother but deciding people who drive German cars are "po faced", i.e."humourless and dissaproving", well of that accusation I am, could perhaps understand it from a Mustang owner, but a Lexus owner biggrin

RCF is fairly brisk, its a nice car, but aint that quick in the scheme of things these days, no quicker than an M140i to 100 mph at 9.9, so tailpipes would be very closely inspected, unless of course its had a remap then, no chance.

Or do you mean the M4, nope that's quicker. Hmm, what else M2 comp, C63 AMG, A45 AMG, not a million miles off a lightly used E63 or M5 price wise, I would leave those things well alone, then there are various RS Audis, a Golf R isnt going to dissapear that easily either.

Or did you mean 320D's, probably on safe ground there, but watch out for the 335D's, may be mapped...

Comments accepted in terms of 0-60 etc etc, however in the world i have been driving in .. tootling along at 120 kmh etc most of the afore mentioned are left in arears until I slow down for the sake of other road users and several seconds normally in the 10s they come steaming past at speeds which would be nice on the track are unwise with other drivers rear view mirror useage. ( AND , I have to admit to having been in an M5 and many 928gts so the finger also points at myself - interestingly I believe the Lexus is the nearest to the 928 gt I have had except for the lack of the manual box).

WIth the standard exhaust that Lexus sounds far too subdued compared to the mustang.
Completely agree. Lexus should be ashamed at how quiet that exhaust is for me, the Mustang sounds lovely and what you'd expect from a 5 Litre V8 engine.

I'm guessing that Lexus are focussing on its GT credentials by making the exhaust so quiet though.

Enjoyed the video a lot.

I agree with Cib24, the constant references to the Ford Performance package perplexed me too as it's standard on all UK V8's and the only difference with the Bullitt suspension and dynamics wise that Dan drove previously was that it had Magneride dampers and Recaro seats. Magneride is an option on all UK cars as are Recaro seats so would be easy as many do to specify the car thus.

Other than that really enjoyed the video.

Agree, great video, but ultimately very different cars despite the similarities in power train.

I think the Mustang is a car you either 'get' or don't. I tend to view them as a blank canvas to make what you want, the aftermarket is so huge and they are such good value to begin with. Spend a few £k and you can make some serious improvements to make the car just how you want it.

I enjoyed the video too, and both are a good secondhand buy if you like the idea of a big N/A V8. You are absolutely right the Lexus is castrated by it's standard exhaust, apart from weighing too much it does restrict the output and sound. Most owners have changed them.
Whenever I change my car (once a year) I always try as many cars within my price range and surprisingly some cars do stand out. The RCF is not to everyones taste and to some the 'yank' Mustang isn't either but good on them for producing a RHD version but they both have glorious N/A V8's and that should be enjoyed whichever one floats you boat.
As Lexus only intended to bring about 200 RCF's into the UK they are few and far between so secondhand choice is very limited.
