How do you find that? Is it a noticable bump in power, or is it's main effect just the removal of the torque dip?
It's great bang for the buck. For things like booting it on a sliproad, say 30-60 in 3rd, it feels much faster. I don't remember the exact numbers, but it's roughly 25% more torque (and therefore power) at 4000rpm, which is right where you can use the extra shove, and the torque curve is now flat from about 3000rpm through to 6750rpm.
Unless you're on track you can only use peak power in 1st and 2nd anyway, so the ~10% peak gain is a bit meaningless. I was told by a passenger that it feels quicker on track than a standard car, and I'm very far from being a trackday god.

It sounded promising until I read it had an auto box.
100%...... car went from hero to zero, with mention of auto!!!
Totally! I got really excited about this and I'd love either a turbocharged/supercharged GT86. Then I saw that it was an auto and I was gutted. frown

people love to slag off the auto GT86 without driving it. Well I own one, and I got it specifically for track days because I wanted sequential paddle shift. It’s not some lazy 4 speed off your Dads old Volvo, it’s designed to mimic a dual clutch. But I’ll give you an honest appraisal: I’ve driven GTRs, the 86 auto is not as crisp or satisfying to shift. But it comes close - the shifts are rapid, the Rev matching on downshift is perfect. It will not shift up on you automatically, you can bounce off the red line till it explodes, if you like.

So I say If you bought that car above you’d have a monster track day machine, auto and all.

Abbey's back lot seems rather funky from a way back. They do like their jap stuff

It's probably quicker than the manual as well no matter how good the driver and you cannot lunch it.

I have an even rarer beast, a powershift MX5 and the auto gearbox in that is quicker than the manual. There are other downsides but the shift itself is not one of them. But you will still get tarred and feathered on forums if you have one biggrin

I want more power in mine too! but i'll go the "Stick in 4 more cylinders and reduce the angle of the crank by over 90 degrees" route instead! laugh

Excuse my lack of knowledge of these cars, but how many gears does the auto have?

Oops, I rated it before I spotted it was an Auto!

Which put me right off. frown

I've driven standard ones as both Auto and Manual, and much preferred the latter. But they both felt a bit under - endowed to me so I ended up buying a manual BMW Z4 Coupe with 265 bhp!

But a manual GT86 with 270 bhp would be fantastic - just not an Auto in Black with Black interior. frown

I ha e a very similar but Normally Aspirated GT86 that's been fettled by Fensport with full exhaust change, manifolds, induction kit and remap. Only 214hp not no torque dip, amazing sound and 4 maps you can change on the fly. The most common one being for 99octane petrol, 7,500 redline, flat shift and throttle blip under braking. You can hear it from miles away, the Subaru burble sounds very exotic and I wrong the neck of it all the time on Michelin PilotSport4 rubber.

It's the best actual sports car I've ever owned and I've owned dozens over the 30 years of holding a license. I also ride motorbikes. It's just like my old Peugeot 309GTi in that I can thrash it, wag the tail of it, place it within mm of where I want it and I have to plan my overtaking and really use the gearbox.

It only cost me £13k and I'm slightly annoyed because I give myself a £50,000 fun-third-car budget but I honestly can't find anything I'd rather have. Maybe an Alpine next time but I'm not desperate.

Never thought I'd ever own a tuned car. But I think they are the future now. Awesome cars.
