My classic car had unblemished MOT history, no fails in 30 years. Then it was failed in 2013 on:
"Reason(s) for failure
Nearside Rear position lamp(s) adversely affected by the operation of another lamp (1.1.A.3f)
Offside Rear position lamp(s) adversely affected by the operation of another lamp (1.1.A.3f)
Offside Stop lamp not working (1.2.1b)"
None of that was true. Just fake fail to keep up with stats. It really annoyed me and I only discovered it after some time, when I checked history online.

What stats? what stats do we have to keep up with? Where are the pass and fail requirements we have to keep to, you know, the ones where we have to fail so many cars? Please someone show me so I can start doing it.

They did the MOT first so if something came up on the MOT which meant they could scare you with not being allowed to drive a dangerous car they could split a wedge off your wallet.

There are other ways of phrasing that which would give more grace to the workshop.
Disagree.

In the past, if a car was in for a service and MOT... it was always MOT'd first. Pointless doing a service, any noted repairs to them MOT it and it have excessive emissions or the brake rollers high light an issue that a service may not. So yes, MOT first... fail / advise accordingly, service plus any repairs as authorised then retest, pass, out the door.

More like: our service department is so slapdash there's a good chance we won't do a decent job which will then be highlighted by the MOT station.
