To be fair, the OP's question is so far removed from reality anything goes! biggrin

I give you the Chaparral 2 J , which raced in 1970 Can Am . Engine number one was a thumping great Chevy V8 , but engine number two was a little two stroke which drove the bloody great fans which gave the car ground effect , and eight years before the Brabham F1 fan car . In the footage I have seen you can even hear the irritating little buzz over the Chevy's rumble .
Thanks, but no one asked for it?

There have been plenty of fan cars, the only difference wih that one being that it is an IC motor rather than an electric one.. It's not really related to the OP's question.

Brilliant thread.

The most anti-green idea I have ever heard. I thought it was bad enough having a noisy engine that powered the wheels, but to have one for just the noise is an epic indulgence.

Why perfectly replicate the sound of an engine with lightweight speakers that don't use any fuel, when you can. Throw in a redundant engine in there just for laughs!

I think we need to build one to make it happen. Maybe buy a Kia Sportage or something equally worthy but dull, and set up a second engine in the back just for noise.

in essence this is what I was talking about as oppose to creating fake sounds in the cabin

it might sound insane but I remember watching a mclaren documentary and they put a lot of effort into creating and adjusting the engine/exhaust to create a pleasing audible noise

my point is in these of days of fake noise within the cabin why not create a similar experience out of it which technically would be authentic as it'd be coming from a small engine

just a thought and not as mental imo as people seem to think here
But what you are showing is speakers.
What you are suggesting is another engine.

You cannot be that daft so my vote is that this thread is a wind up.

Picking up on the electric car sound, they should really produce a electric car with a gearbox (dont laugh, some motors dont have a flat torque) and a 'sport' button that overdrives the electric motor and mechanically couples fans to the motors that make an exciting noise. It would not be totally 'fake' as the fans would be 'necessary' (sort of) to cool the 'overdriven' motors and the gearbox would give some audible feedback. It would go someway to making an all electric sports car more acceptable.
