There was a similar thing happened to Cavaliers when they were jacked up on the front arms

Why on earth would you jack a car up on the lower arms? Many models have cast arms - my Shed included - and I would never dream of doing that...?

:-/
Not when cavaliers were new there weren’t.

There was a recall for this on foresters
That recall included the impreza as well.

Recall notice as below:

Models Forester and Impreza
VIN Range -
Build Dates 01/01/2002 - 31/12/2007
Concern
LOWER CONTROL ARMS MAY FAIL
Defect
The front Transverse links (lower Control Arms) may corrode leading to possible breakage if left without treatment.
Remedy
Either additional rust proofing or replacement of the Transverse links will be performed according to the degree of corrosion.
I wonder if this particular car had it done. If not, was that every picked up by the servicing main dealer?

I have certainly been told before by a main dealer, that they were automatically adding a recall fix to the schedule of works, when I have been in for services.

I had the rear sub frame collapse due to corrosion on my Honda Accord which then had to scrapped and funnily it was MOT'ed 8 months before that with a service

The RAC man wanted to find out how on earth did the car pass the MOT as the corrosion has not happened overnight but has been developing over the years,I had to scrap the car in the end

but then again Im not sure if we expect the mechanics do the impossible on the other hand....

Out of interest was it a 2.4, and was it a purpley blue saloon with hearing aid beige interior?

Interesting about the recall - I’ll make him aware of that.

He has it serviced at specialists so you’d expect them to be pretty clued up.

Perhaps I’ve just had a few too many stupid garage related things this past few weeks where cars belonging to friends have ended up on my ramp and perhaps I’m just a bit flustered because of the potential consequences of this.

Obviously I can’t be certain I would have spotted the potential failure any more than the next guy but I am very picky about things and so, I’d back myself on this working for a mate who I care about vs a garage having to do it commercially.
