It is no wonder the 'J' bit of JLR are in such a mess when they turn out such dreary dross as this. I know it's quite good to drive, but that exterior and interior look 10 years out of date, and as a result it has next to no 'showroom appeal'. This car, unfortunately, will do nothing to address their woes.

Yep..Jag engineers and designers seem to be very lost.

It's a faded brand really and don't think it will be missed if it goes.

Unlike the "I" and "when" which were quite obviously.....

I've not been in a modern Jag, but I assume that the rotary gearbox controller isn't compatible with the latest autoboxes? Shame if so
It was a conscious decision to remove it. I always like it as well.
Yep, I much prefer it to a stick. If nothing else, it makes access to the centre console storage slot much easier.

To me, special editions are the mark that a design is getting to end of life, so they are trying to shift the old components before the new starts......

I think it's actually a good feature if you have small children in the back. Keeps them out of direct sunlight and in doing so keeps them a bit cooler.
But on the other hand makes the interior gloomy and dark, and means that the car behind you cannot look through your car to monitor the traffic ahead of you. Personally, I;d make it illegal if I could.

As to this XE - great car; nice colour. I'd happily have one if they still offered a manual gearbox.
I have kids so I quite like the privacy glass.

I was driving the Touring today with the privacy glass and tbh didn't find it gloomy or dark.

I understand the annoyance about not being able to see ahead through it, but that complaint can be applied to many high SUVs and vans etc.

On the bottom rung as a rep. & did I know it, selling sweets for Nestle. I wanted a Mk 3 Cortina L in the rather pretty yellow so much it hurt, all 1.3 litres of it. Beat that for sadness.

Im pretty certain the gearbox is the same. For whatever reason theyve just decided to start phasing it out
They no longer have the right to use it. It was a Ford invention and they kept the right. You will now see it appearing on Ford models like the US Fusion

Sheep in Wolfs paint !

What is its it with the XE, we have C63's. M3/4's, Alfa QF etc and Jaguar make a similar sized RWD car yet its all either diesels and lower powered petrols, token gesture semi fast one (relative to the aforementioned) with 375 bhp, then a big gap to the 100 odd grand mental one nobody really asked for.

Now we get a tepid version, painted like an XFR-S.

They have the V8 engine, it makes plenty of power, it fits but they only sell it for 150 grand, more than twice what it should really cost.

Like going in a pub that sells Shandy, Bitter, Lager for £3.90 or if you fancy something stronger, a pint of top shelf for £80.

Why not a sixty is grand 500 ish bhp one that is basically an XE that doesn't need bespoke carbon bodywork ?

I too wonder this, and I assume it’s to do with average range C02? Jaguar aren’t like Mercedes or BMW who had a small engined A class and 1 series to bring the average down across the range.

Although I do wonder why Jaguar haven’t also built a small hatchback, even if they platform shared, or a small Land Rover 4x4 say the size of a juke.

They don’t have the v8 engine for much longer. As soon as the Bridgend Ford engine plant closes the v8 will cease. The XE and XF were never designed to fit this engine because of that. This is why the P8 is LHD only and small numbers. They do have the P400 3.0 straight 6 Ingenium with electric help that is starting to be rolled out now. Probably won’t make it into the current XE and XF though because of engineering challenges.

I’m respect of a small car there is talk that they will platform share the 1 series with BMW and potentially buy their v8 for niche fitment like the F-type. There is also a small Land Rover in development. Not sure it will quote be a Nissan Juke competitor but they are talking 25k ish apparently
