By the time you have optioned this to £50k may as well get the c43. With a 6 cylinder engine making 385bhp. Normally these are discounted to more like £45k as older model. Otherwise looks nice in my opinion.

Quite the lardy car isnt it?!
It is when you consider it only has a four cylinder engine and it is the smallest car Mercedes makes. All the mod cons that customers like don't really help nowadays either regards the weight to be fair though.

Perhaps it’s from living in London and spending a lot of time in Bristol, but I wouldn’t expect most of these to be specced as suggested.

Most will be blatted around by the snapback rude boy massive who care less for the feel at 9/10ths and more for the backfire cog swaps and premium interior.

That should be attributed to Colin Chapman.
Of course - I just meant that among current designers, Murray is one of the biggest proponents of starting with lightness

It looks nice, but not £40k nice.

That's not a "you can buy an old car for £5k" comment. When its mechanically very similar little brother is just as nice to look at (in my opinion) and has more space, why would you?

I'll reserve judgment until the 2 series Gran Coupé is tested. That said, if I were in the market now I'd be visiting a Hyundai dealer to talk about an i30 Fastback N.

I never thought I'd say that five years ago. How times change.

Plus the depreciation which will drop the price as I will wait until thy drop to 35k.I felt tempted to get a yellow one.

Is it a hatchback like an a5 sportback or bmw 4 gran coupe? If not its useless, especially when the saloon looks better

Also, I dont know if anyone else thinks this and I'm an owner of a 4gc and previous owner of an a5 sportback, but arent these cars now just glorified mondeos or insingnias? Mid size hatchbacks have been around for years but German firms call them 4 door coupes!!

I really like the 4GC and A5 sportback because they offer great practicality with the hatchback. I'm not 100% on what this is though, if it is a saloon opening then I also struggle to see the point of it.

It has frameless windows so that’s quite nice!
But yes, it’s a slightly more stylish saloon with less rear headroom, wider track, at least on the none AMG versions and better spec.

When they also offer an A35 saloon, as below, is the customer really asking for so much choice?

I really doubt it.

Better looking than the CLA in my opinion - but the CLA will outsell the saloon. It's all market-dependent, and as said many times, the UK isn't keen on those afterthought saloons.
