What is a drivers car to you?

Maybe a contentious one here. But to me your definition fits perfectly. And it would certainly rank as a drivers car for me. But maybe as a different kind of driving that is arguably actually more fun.

I’m not really a BMW or M car fan. But if anyone thinks they are boring they must be completely off their rocker! Let alone “really” boring.

Which means that the phrase 'drivers car' is about as meaningless as any other

Ok you guys got me..."Really boring" was probably a little harsh on the old things.

How's "moderately boring"? Some M's are OK IMO but the bigger ones tend to be heavy, lack feel, so-so damped etc. Decent engines as usual though. Until/unless they go wrong or need work of course...

I have driven plenty but on road whilst I can see the appeal for some people, they always seemed to offer poor VFM against other more focused cars for similarish money.

If our M6 man enjoys his then great, we all like different things. But against other cars it will fall short as a pure, hardcore focused driver's car.

You probably missed my point. On my narrow definition of a 'drivers car' its not an M3. In my definition its too big and heavy, whereas an exige is about spot on (or an Evora) light, nimble. Their initial design brief was much more focused on the driving.. The M3 has a different brief. That does not make it a bad car, or mean its not a 'drivers car' under a different definition.

Im not M car bashing, honest !

Last time I drive an M3 very fast, at a track, the car was better than me, I almost felt like a passenger, whereas the 911 GT3 felt more like my Carrera in that it was 'flawed' in that you had to make the chassis work, which was more about 'driving'.

but, I drove a Austin A30, that was so flawed, and left so much to the driver, you almost had to pedal, and that was not fun.

So, my point. The term 'drivers car' is too undefined to get any sort of agreement

While I'd agree that both Evora and Exige are (by my definition) drivers cars - they are very different from each other. The Evora is a perfectly sensible, reasonably refined and practical daily driver. The Exige is far more focused and none of the above. Once you include the Evora in your definition all sorts of other cars (imo) are candidates. I'd certainly include the best hot hatches, for example.
