I agree and it's quite funny. I actually think that people buying £100k family cars also choose that kind of car to annoy the couple of angry and hateful weirdos. I don't blame them. pb8g09 said:
I usually like some of these fast SUVs, but when the reviewer says he’s concerned it won’t even fit on a B-road- I’m oot.
For me the Merc SUVs or an X5 are more appealing.
I’m sure these will be great wafters on roads in the Gulf, but utterly bonkers in this country.
Well, not everybody drives on B roads frequently. I think it's often overstated about the size of these being a problem by those who either just don't like them for one reason or another, or those who are poor at judging widths. Many people in the UK drive SUVs without problems, and people even manage to drive bigger things such as Transit vans which are even wider! These aren't really any wider than a RR I wouldn't have thought, and you see a fair few of those about so it's either they are better at judging widths and driving than you, or you drive on small, narrow roads more frequently than others. For me the Merc SUVs or an X5 are more appealing.

The very minor grammatical errors and typos are a nice touch, too, as they seem to have some people absolutely fuming.
100% and they turn up angry right on que every time The very minor grammatical errors and typos are a nice touch, too, as they seem to have some people absolutely fuming.
That is impressively fast.
Not my cup of tea though, but I don’t really get excited about SUV’s.
It does seem a bit mad to be putting this much effort into cars like this which as others have said will draw the attention of the environmentalists. Guessing the profit margins are big enough to keep churning them out.

Was reading an interesting article on Drive Nation last night. With pressure on climate and reducing pollution, they suggest that SUV's could become a big target for government in the future. I do not dislike the RSQ8, however it does seem strange to be launching a car like this with the climate agenda being pushed at the forefront. Especially this being the ultimate SUV, just seems at odds with itself..

To be fair, they're probably not going to shift many of these anyway. Sell a few to those who like to be seen in the latest toy, then discarded when the next toy comes around. G
Plus I do think car legislation will change very soon. Cars are becoming too powerful, and too quick. Maybe the manufacturers know this (even though they've created it) so are just being silly until they get stopped by legislation.
I wonder what the depreciation on one of these will be?
I actually don't think it's a surprise that cars like this are being launched now. With the inevitability of cars going electric, the chance to buy a new, fast, V8 car or SUV like this or the RS6 will probably not be an option in 5, certainly 10, years time. A lot of people don't like the idea of going electric, so probably see this almost as a last chance to buy. And given that there is so clearly a market for this type of vehicle, would Audi not be making a poor business decision by not getting into that market, especially as it has the means to do so pretty easily by sharing a lot with its sister companies?
Also, any change to tax etc. on SUVs won't affect the manufacturers once these are sold. And let's face it, if you're willing to spent big money on the purchase cost of something like this, say £1500+/month, plus £2500/year on fuel (10k miles at ~22mpg), would road tax doubling from £500 to £1000, or even more, really be what makes you stop, think and change your mind about your purchase...?
As for the size of it, sure it's wide, but not excessively so in comparison to the competition. Haven't found exact numbers for the RS, but the SQ8 is 2190mm wide, RR Sport SVR is 2290mm wide, Cayenne is 2194mm and X6 is 2212mm.

It's not as bad looking as some, but it's still an overstyled flabby box, albeit with a great drivetrain. I'll be happy when a weight tax is brought in (as an adjunct to emissions tax) to reflect the environmental cost of these things. That way, freedom of choice is preserved (you can still buy one), but the environmental cost is preserved (...but you'll pay for the damage).
As for size, it's down to where you live. I wouldn't fancy one on Cornwall'ls lanes or a town car park, but if you are in Yorkshire or Scotland, then size doesn't matter. Your car, that is...
It's not for me, as I covet elegance and nimbleness over flab and brutality. Chacun a son gout, as they say in Hull.

With my limited experience of SUV's(only had 2) they are all about going quickly in a straight line. As soon as you throw them into a corner it can turn sour quite quickly...and you are better off adopting a slow and steady approach. Cruising in comfort is their forte imo.

Soon to become the staff of SUV Weekly? Is it me or is the font for the articles really large? Perhaps it is related to the size of the vehicle being written about? Or perhaps they know that the old timers are getting old and long sighted
