It's been covered many times elsewhere. Dan even mentions it in the review. It's a shame there isn't a manual option but it's up to the individual if that is important or not. It certainly wasn't a deal breaker for the reviewer.

It’s ok. Apparently an mx5 is all anyone needs anyway. Having a manual option wouldn’t make a massive difference imo to how many are sold.
You are probably right. If they offered a manual option, I still think most buyers will opt for the auto anyway.

The only reason the Alpine or 4C are not in my garage is the lack of a proper gearbox!
So instead you drive a Lancia Eypselon? What's one of those?

Luckily he put it on a PCP, and hopefully with a marketing discount. Just as well as these values will sink like stones. Massively overpriced.

50k with Dacia switchgear?? No thanks. I would rather save a little and have BMW switchgear in a Toyota!

Why? It's 50k with a four pot and the switch gear from a 6k car. For 4k more you can get a 6 pot with decent build quality. The Renault is over priced. I'm not into over paying for anything. At 35k the Renault would be worth a punt.

Are you really old?
What a stupid comment. Are you a child? We usually get a few idiot posters like you over the school holidays.

Most people who want a “driver’s car” ( for want of a better expression) will want a manual.

If the Alpine was available as a manual I’d potentially be interested, but for me (and many others), the fact it’s automatic only loses its raison d’être, so a bit of a missed opportunity.

The "speed matters" tag line seems to be gone from the site -- so maybe its "bits of plastic matter" now and nobody told us wink?

Some people seem to think it's "Yonex's opinion matters" or possible "Yonex's (lack of) size matters". wink

It’s over priced because of switch gear, or engine configuration? What £54K car exactly?

It's overpriced because it's a Renault! With crap switchgear and a 4cyl.

My mistake, the Supra is 52k. Makes the Alpine look even more overpriced.

And the Toyota is quicker..which will please you wink

Ah, the BMW.

Yes I can see how anyone in the market for the Alpine would be swayed rofl Totally different cars.

Why would you look at the Bupra when the M2 CS is available?

So Mr Yonex...what can we compare the Alpine to? 4C? Exige? Cayman?

Okay, so 4C is dynamically challenged. Driving position dislocates your hips, steering is dead and the ride makes running over a worm break your spine.

Exige is a joy on the right road when you're in the mood but you can't live with it as a daily.

Cayman - I haven't driven it but the 981 Boxster was great and I would have one if I needed a car to motorways as well as the fun stuff.

By the way Mr Yonex you haven't let us know what your preference would be?
