How is that a “trolls” comment
Because it’s based on the similarly poor effort of:
simonbamg and
Gran cab is my hero - both forum names that appear under your new monicker of Walter Geoffrey.
I see you changed from Simonbamg when you were shown your arse by me in another Alpine thread and the poster Grancab did the same to you when you called custard on his 812...

You need to cover your tracks better...or just get a life and stop trolling threads of cars you have no interest in

Anyway back on topic -
Would be interesting to know what cars the PH journos drive. Despite being a petrol head I spent most of my time in London without a car and I can see the temptation of not owning one and relying on the loaners the journalists get.
I was surprised Dan put his own money down for a new Alpine given everything he has driven but it is that kind of car.

Hahaha sorry my opinion doesn’t match with yours, is that allowed just asking, great forum knowledge by the way, and last one, is it a competition as to who “wins” the argument or just a forum, I could devote more time to it like yourself and become the un disputed king of PH “trolling” sorry I meant passing my opinion if you like and leave you sobbing at your well worn keyboard

Haha, good sleuthing. I’m normally pretty forgetful with PH forum names, but whenever I saw a post by that Simonbamg it was often associated in my mind with the words ‘bit of a tit’.

Wasn’t difficult as both he and Timo Mak have a signature “style” so it had to be one of them!

It's overpriced because it's a Renault! With crap switchgear and a 4cyl.

My mistake, the Supra is 52k. Makes the Alpine look even more overpriced.

And the Toyota is quicker..which will please you wink
But you are rather missing the point of the Alpine, its a car that dispenses with the more power bigger wheels mantra and seeks to bring back some of the driving fun of the past when cars where nimble, had feel and you had fun. Now its all about horsepower and "switchgear" and very fat tyres.

By all means compare it to whatever you please but trying to dismiss a car because of one facet is rather simplistic.

It has a 4 cylinder engine because that's all it needs, and a 6 cylinder would be heavier and detract from its driving qualities.
It also has a hand built aluminium body and chassis, hardly going to be cheap to make.

It's a car that goes against all the bragging rights of fastest this or more of that, its just a car that does a lot of things really well.

It's not a car for everyone but its amazing that on a driving forum there are so many haters that dismiss something based on a badge or 'its not a manual' or not a 6 cylinder.

I have one, I love it, its a dream to drive and I don't care how much it depreciates because these types of cars won't be around for long and I have no plans to replace it because there are very few (if any) comparable cars.

The Supra also weighs around 1500kg so I'm not sure that it is even a rival to the Alpine. The Supra is a GT in comparison for me.

I like the Supra(I would prefer it with a manual though) but I'm not sure if you would cross shop them. Different tools for different jobs I reckon.

The Alpine is in the sports car mould whereas the Supra is a cruiser for me.

Why? It's 50k with a four pot and the switch gear from a 6k car. For 4k more you can get a 6 pot with decent build quality. The Renault is over priced. I'm not into over paying for anything. At 35k the Renault would be worth a punt.
Some people prefer driving, others prefer switch gear. Can't say I'd get up early on a nice morning to go to the garage and mess with heater dials, go for a drive in an engaging car though, yes.

Out of interest, what issues are happening with the A110 build quality? Dan mentions in the video how it's rattle free and built well.

Shh! Don’t tell everyone they are well built as that ruins the 1970s stereotype that the uninformed continue to roll out
It’s clearly a benefit of the investment in the construction of the vehicle. I’m perfectly happy they use a clio radio stalk and spent the money where it matters- on a lightweight aluminium structure and bespoke suspension

Absolutely! My criticisms of it are:

Not manual, engine not special enough, £10k too expensive.

On the plus side:

Refreshingly not German, lightweight, pretty to my eyes.
£10k cheaper, why, how? Aluminium, no shared platform, literally hand made.

Suggest you get some help and change your name again as I don’t want you to be posting anything under a name similar to my username.
You have issues and a motoring forum is not the place to get help.

Really, an outsider reading this thread must think what a bunch of deranged saddos.

The Alpine is not the perfect car, it’s not for everyone but for Christ’s sake let’s celebrate that such a car exists. It’s not a Porsche it’s not an MX-5, but it’s not a bland electro box either.

For that, I’d not buy one but hats off to those that do. So 3 cheers to Dan for taking the brave pill. Much more than some of the keyboard freaks on here.

Thank goodness the school holidays will soon be over!

Well. They would be the obvious ones.
Okay, so 4C is dynamically challenged. Driving position dislocates your hips, steering is dead and the ride makes running over a worm break your spine.

Exige is a joy on the right road when you're in the mood but you can't live with it as a daily.

Cayman - I haven't driven it but the 981 Boxster was great and I would have one if I needed a car to motorways as well as the fun stuff.

By the way Mr Yonex you haven't let us know what your preference would be?
Nice work. Colleen Rooney would be impressed!

Out of interest, what issues are happening with the A110 build quality? Dan mentions in the video how it's rattle free and built well.
The only major fault was a few early cars developed cracks in the windscreen due to some poor fitting of the seals. Most of the owners I've met have had no real issues with theirs. Mine was completely rattle free amd tight as a drum. I've owned several Renaults in my time and all have been absolutely problem free.

The original Alpine cars were built using common Renault parts in a specially developed chassis. The idea being you get a sports car with reliability. So the current A110 is following the same ethos.

For comparison, my last Cayman went back many times to the dealer for various fixes in 12 months. Maybe I was unlucky, but at least three of the faults (i.e. sports chrono engine / gearbox mounts failure, windscreen washer pipes snapping, rear spoiler warping) were common complaints with other owners.

My BMW and Mini ownership experience wasn't much better either but the aircon and radio switchgear were solid.

Alpine owners are not necessarily sensitive. They probably just like to call out bullsh*t.

Luckily he put it on a PCP, and hopefully with a marketing discount. Just as well as these values will sink like stones. Massively overpriced.
No he didn't get a discount (not a penny he says in a previous article). And the reason PCP is affordable is because residuals are very high - significantly higher than Porsche, for example. People have been making frankly silly comments about depreciation since the car was launched - I suggest you look at second-hand values. They only recently dropped below new prices despite some cars are well over a year old and have clocked up a few miles.

The only reason the Alpine or 4C are not in my garage is the lack of a proper gearbox!
So instead you drive a Lancia Eypselon? What's one of those?
How many autos are in your garage?

Great video on a great car, i really hope we'll see more of it, and how it is to live with. And where you take it, a trip to the Alps, or mountains above the French riviera in that car would really be a dream drive!

At pretty much the same price as the above mentioned supra it makes the Alpine look very good value on its bespoke aluminium platform, and 400kg lighter, weird comparison, but that's PH smile
